Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi reportedly tried to sign his old Lazio pupil Ciro Immobile while searching for a striker last summer.

The Nerazzurri’s attacking department underwent a major overhaul in the off-season. Club captain Lautaro Martinez is the only one who remained in his post.

On the other hand, the Nerazzurri parted ways with Romelu Lukaku – in a rather dramatic fashion – as well as Edin Dezko. They also sent Joaquin Correa on loan to Marseille.

The Serie A giants snapped up the services of Marcus Thuram on a free transfer. They also brought in veterans Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez back for second stints.

However, the Austrian bomber wasn’t exactly the club’s first option on the shortlist. News sources were linking Inter with a host of strikers.

Moreover, an emerging report now claims that the Beneamata had also tried their luck for Immobile.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, Inzaghi was hoping to reunite with the striker who led his line for five years during his time at the helm of Lazio.

The Roman newspaper even claims that Inter were in direct contact with the player and his agent.

However, convincing Lazio president Claudio Lotito of parting ways with his club captain was an almost impossible task.

Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi Was Hoping To Add Ciro Immobile To His Ranks

Therefore, the idea faded while in the early stages, with the Euro 2020 winner remaining in the Italian capital.

The former Juventus, Torino and Borussia Dortmund striker will be leading the charge for the Biancocelesti this evening as they host Inter at the Stadio Olimpico.

Immobile scored seven goals in his 21 appearances across all competitions this season. The striker is tied to Lazio with a contract running until 2026.
