Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi offered comforting updates on the condition of Alexis Sanchez who missed the trip to Rome through injury.

The Nerazzurri traveled to the Italian capital to take on Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico. They returned victorious thanks to two unanswered goals courtesy of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

However, Sanchez remained at home after sustaining a muscle strain.

Inzaghi reveals that the 34-year-old will undergo medical tests on Monday to reveal the extent of his injury. But in the meantime, the club is optimistic about his condition.

The manager doesn’t rule out a swift return in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia encounter against Bologna.

“Let’s hope he can recover for Bologna. During the final training session before the Lazio match, he stopped after about twenty minutes due to muscular fatigue. So we decided not to bring him,” explained Inzaghi in his post-match press conference via FcInterNews.

“Playing the final part of today’s match would have compromised a little on a muscular level. We hope to have him by Wednesday.

“He’ll have some checks tomorrow morning but we’re optimistic.”

As for the match against his former club, Inzaghi was content with his team’s display.

“We played an important match against a tough opponent. As a coach, it’s nice to win a match like this with a good team performance, although we granted a dangerous opportunity to Rovella who could have made it 1-1.

“But we were a team facing difficulties due to injuries. So we had to be at our best against a team that finished second last year and went through to the Champions League round of 16.”

The Nerazzurri managed to extend their lead on top of the table to four points. However, Inzaghi warns that the campaign is still long.

“It’s an important victory and we continue on this track. But there are 22 games left, so we have to stay sharp.

“I need everyone to be ready. We’re already missing four important players.”
