Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram has avoided an ankle injury despite a nasty challenge against Torino, and has been called up for France.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Thuram was on the end of a painful tackle during Inter’s Serie A win against Torino over the weekend.

That tackle came courtesy of Torino defender Guillermo Maripan.

The Chilean put in a sliding challenge on Thuram. However, his attempt was late and high, with the studs of his boots making contact with the Inter striker’s ankle.

Thuram was clearly in pain after the tackle, not surprisingly.

Initially referee Matteo Marcenaro only gave a yellow card to Maripan. However, VAR advised the referee to have another look at it on the monitor.

And after a quick look Marcenaro changed the colour of the card to red for the 30-year-old, who joined Torino from Monaco during the summer transfer window.

No Injury For Marcus Thuram Despite Horror Tackle – Called Up For France

It would be safe to say that Thuram was able to shake off Maripan’s tackle during the match against Torino.

The 27-year-old was Inter’s match-winner, scoring a hattrick in a 3-2 victory for the Nerazzurri.

However, during the second half Thuram had to come off.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi confirmed that it had been the player who had asked for the substitution. This was the result of his continuing to feel some pain from Maripan’s challenge.

As soon as he came off, Thuram applied ice to the ankle on the bench.

There was some doubt about whether or not Thuram could have in fact sustained a serious injury in the course of the tackle.

But the Gazzetta report that medical tests have shown the Frenchman to be fine.

Therefore, Thuram will be part of the France squad during the international break.
