Legendary former Inter Milan goalkeeper Walter Zenga feels that the Nerazzurri are “a different team” defensively between Serie A and the Champions League.
Zenga gave his thoughts on his old team’s defensive issues to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.
This season, Inter have already conceded nine goals in Serie A.
That comes after just seven matches. Therefore, Inter are allowing more than a goal per game in the league.
That has cost Inter early on. They dropped points away to Genoa and Monza due to some careless defensive lapses, before being well beaten by city rivals AC Milan in the derby.
Inter have bounced back from that derby defeat with two straight wins.
But even then, despite the results, the performances have not exactly been convincing. Particularly on a defensive level.
Inter needed three goals to beat both Udinese and Torino. Both found the back of the net twice against the Nerazzurri.
In the case of the Granata, both goals that they scored actually came while Inter had a numerical advantage following a red card for defender Guillermo Maripan.

In Europe, on the other hand, Inter keeper Yann Sommer has yet to have to pick the ball up out of his net.
The Nerazzurri managed to keep a clean sheet away to Premier League juggernauts Manchester City. That was certainly their most impressive defensive performance of the season.
Then against Red Star Belgrade, the Nerazzurri also avoided conceding a goal.
Legendary former Inter keeper Zenga said that “In my opinion this is happening because there’s a difference between the Champions League and Serie A.”
“In Europe, particularly with the new format, you have to keep the level up throughout the match,” he said.
“Because not conceding is very important. Partly for goal difference.”
“Then there’s the fact that, in my views, Italian teams are tactically better,” Zenga argued.
