Legendary former Inter Milan captain Beppe Bergomi has doubts about a move for Ademola Lookman as “players who leave Atalanta tend to struggle.”
Bergomi gave his thoughts in an interview with Naples-based newspaper Il Mattino, via FCInterNews.
Inter Milan are pushing to sign Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman. The Nigerian international is their top target in attack this summer.
The Nerazzurri have already made an offer to Atalanta for Lookman.
La Dea have rejected the initial bid, which Inter have not yet increased. However, the player himself reportedly wants to join.
Bergomi Skeptical Of Inter Lookman Links: “Players Who Leave Atalanta Tend To Struggle”

If Lookman were to arrive, he would certainly be a big name signing for Inter. The 27-year-old is a well-proven player in Serie A.
Therefore, the hope would be that Lookman would be the kind of signing that would instantly bolster the Inter starting eleven. Particularly if the Nerazzurri are to pay a big fee for him.
However, former Inter captain Beppe Bergomi isn’t so sure.
“Players who leave Atalanta have tended to struggle,” he noted.
“But with that said, he could be a useful player. I hope he ends up in a Nerazzurri shirt.”
However, Bergomi also cautioned that “then you have to change the system of play.”
The former Inter captain was certain that “you can’t leave out Lautaro or Thuram.”
I don’t like paying $50million for a player that we will likely only get 1-2 seasons out of before a serious decline. Because of his age we won’t be able to move him on so will be stuck with him until he declines further not wanting to leave to go to a smaller club with less wages.
Id rather spend $40million on Leoni who could play 11 years before realistic decline starts showing and if we decided to sell him after 5-6 seasons he would be in his prime for a big transfer fee.
do you realize that he is currently African player of the year. 50 M is even to small
last season inter got big sum of money despite failing to win a trophy so if lookman could strengthen the team I think it’s better than signing leoni who’s still young and could be another average player such asllani and bisseck. lookman has experiences and played in Italy for years, BUT he could be like frattesi or zielinski instead of mkhi or darmian who were still good at their declined ages
I think bastoni did pretty well what say bergomi? gosens was not bad either, though injury soured his campaign.
Gosens was unlucky that Dimarco started to shine
Players have struggled after Atalanta, but Lookman would be joining a team that plays a similar system, and he won’t need to move home, or need time ro adjust, so hopefully that will be a big help…. As for Thuram being undroppable, after his performances in 2025, I’d say he needs to pull his finger out, or any of Pio, Bonny, Lookman or Frattesi will be ready to step in!!
Lookman will start next to Thuram and Lautaro. But yes, Pio and Bonny along with some of our attacking mids may take his spot if his bad form continues.
It is well, Ultra.
