Inter Milan’s starting lineup has changed little so far this summer despite a number of new signings.
This is highlighted by Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb. They anticipate that Petar Sucic will be the only new name in Inter’s starting eleven in today’s friendly match against Olympiacos.
It has been a somewhat busy summer for Inter already.
The Nerazzurri changed coach, for one thing. Simone Inzaghi departed for the allure of big money at Al-Hilal, and Cristian Chivu replaced him.
Reports indicate that Chivu wants to change the formation from a 3-5-2 to more of a 3-4-2-1.
Meanwhile, Inter have signed wingback Luis Henrique, midfielder Petar Sucic, and striker Ange-Yoan Bonny.
Then, just as notably, Inter have also made 20-year-old striker Francesco Pio Esposito a part of their first team plans.
These new arrivals have certainly lived up to the Nerazzurri’s plan to lower the average age of the squad.
However, there are questions about whether Inter have signed any players who will make a big change to the first-choice starting eleven right away.
Inter Starting XI Still Largely Unchanged Despite Summer Signings

Inter will play their last preseason friendly against Olympiacos this evening.
And Nerazzurri coach Cristian Chivu is planning to play his first-choice starting eleven, more or less. He wants today’s match to be a trial run for the team’s Serie A opener against Torino.
TuttoMercatoWeb anticipate that summer signing Petar Sucic will start in midfield. The Croat will take the place of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
However, the outlet report that nine of the other ten starters will be the ones who started in the Champions League final, which saw Inter lose 5-0 to Paris Saint-Germain.
Stefan de Vrij, meanwhile, will start in the centre of the back three rather than Francesco Acerbi. Hardly new blood, though.
The formation will still be a 3-5-2 as it had been under Simone Inzaghi and Antonio Conte.
And so far, the Nerazzurri have not signed any players who will immediately shift the balance of the starting eleven.
There is still the possibility that Inter could bring in Ademola Lookman. The Atalanta forward would certainly change the dynamic and facilitate a change to a 3-4-2-1 shape.
Meanwhile, Inter have been linked with Roma midfielder Manu Kone for a couple days. However, that deal looks to be off.
In defense, it had seemed inevitable that Inter would make changes this summer. However, they’ve missed out on big targets like Koni De Winter and Giovanni Leoni.
we paid 30 mill for a certain Louis Enrique, did he take to the field yesterday against Olympiakos?
Leoni 31m to liverpool
Ricci 23m to milan
We could had both of these at these prices and it would have covered our most pressing positions.
Anyone can go back and look at my comment history. I’ve been pushing for Chivu for awhile. Only thing is they aren’t going to give him the keys to the keys anytime soon. If he has a good two years under his belt. Maybe they might consider some of his transfer targets. Until now, he’s stuck with whatever Oaktree approves.
That’s what happens when you don’t buy anybody better than what you already have…..
Sucic looks to be the only shining light
3rd Cb is a waste of space. Chivu apparently doesn’t have a clear idea or identity.
If we switch to back 4, main cb’s could be Bastoni-Pavard or Bastoni-Bisseck and we have DeVrij and Accerbi to step in when required.
I guess we’ll still have to watch same boring defensive football
I know in terms of formation and players we haven’t managed to change much, but if you look at the training and the recently, the way they play are very different. They train and play with the ball a lot more than when Inzaghi was the manager and you can compare the recent matches to last seasons. I kid you not, last season, defenders had the ball 80% of the possession with very slow offensive progression.
In what world are you putting bisseck before acerbi or even de vrij?!
I’d take a 45yr old acerbi over that waste of space bisseck
Guys, i think we’re fkd, we are failing all transfers…
