Cristian Chivu admits that Inter Milan are “a work in progress” after their 1-2 Serie A loss at the hands of Udinese.
The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after the match.
Inter Milan’s early season momentum came to a grinding halt at the San Siro this evening.
The Nerazzurri may have thought that they were on their way to another victory after Denzel Dumfries put them ahead against Udinese in the first half.
However, the Friulani coped much better with going behind than Torino had last weekend.
Kosta Runjaic’s team managed to score twice. They used their pace and physicality to win the ball back, get forward quickly, and create chances.
Udinese managed to score twice to go in 2-1 up at halftime.
Then in the second half, Udinese defended virtually flawlessly. Inter had plenty of possession, but created few telling opportunities.
Therefore, the match ended in Inter’s first defeat of the campaign, just one match into it.
Chivu Admits Inter A “Work In Progress” After 1-2 Serie A Loss Vs Udinese

After the match, Inter coach Cristian Chivu gave his thoughts on his first Serie A loss in charge of the Nerazzurri.
“The first difficult situation that we faced was a penalty,” he said.
“And then we lost our composure and all our motivation.”
“You could tell that we were struggling,” said the Inter coach.
“Then in the second half, I saw more desire, grit, and quality. Oftentimes, even with our composure fading as time went on, we had chances in the box.”
“But we couldn’t score,” the Nerazzurri coach lamented.
Chivu said that he told his team at halftime that “we need to look for more clarity.”
“To move around more. And to make different run. To be more vertical, move the ball, and create superiority with the back three.”
“Because they were the ones who had more time to play,” he said.
“Then we put on four forward. Pio as a big target to take advantage of crosses. But Kristensen and Solet played a great match.”
“These are the moments that you have to learn to manage,” said Chivu. “When you can’t play a nice game, you have to learn to do it a bit more dirty.”
“We haven’t improved after the first matchday,” he added. “And we’re not any worse after this one.”
“We’re a work in progress,” Chivu said. “We have to find the right team and work hard, it’s a long season.”
Then, the Inter coach said that “I don’t even want to think about” facing Juventus after the international break.
“There are two weeks of international duty. I hope that the break gives my players some peace of mind.”
“I know that when you go away on international break, you can come back with more energy,” Chivu said. “Then we’ll face Juventus. And that’s always a huge match.”
shame on you Inter
fie losing Lookman
we won’t even qualify for the Champions League
let alone winning something
a real flop
prior to our goal and a few minutes to Udinese first goal we were playing shit our midfield looks very boring and what the fucking was Hakan doing on the pitch.this guy needs to be sold.
what a load of rubbish
Udinese just drew against Verona at home last week.
Sorry to tell you guys. If you don’t spend intelligently Inter won’t even make it to the Champions league next season
shame on you Inter
Leoni and Ricci were quite cheap. We spend more on average players.
can we try the 433 formation? J.Martinez, Augusto, Bastoni, Pavard, Dumfries, Sucic, Barella, Diouf, Bonny, Pio, Henrique.
No Dimarco, his ability only crossing.
we buy player only for bench. if we lost with all new player, no problem. the problem is we use starting lineup same as two years ago, only sucic that different and lost. i hope this starting lineup vs juve : 3-5-2 ~ J.Martinez, Bastoni, DeVrij, Pavard, Dumfries, Sucic,Barella, Diouf, Henrique, Bonny, Pio. Need young player new CCB for replace DeVrij. Kristensen, Bertola Udinese maybe. Acerbi, DeVrij, Mkhitaryan, Sommer must retired.
only idiots who blame chivu. his tactic looks promising. players don’t wait until opponents pass their own half to start aggressive pressing. the problem is management. we need fresh blood in the back like sucic to cover the entire 90, not just youngsters or promising youngsters, but hidden gem like sucic. put aside solet’s big issue, he looked physically good for us.
The next action from Inter is VERY SIMPLE GET A NEW DEFENDER. The match was lost because the defence not just Bisseck fault but Acerbi as well. If impossible to get a new defender just use the current top youth team defender. Otherwise it actually Chivu fault if he doesn’t openly demand a defender. Inter made enough sales to get a half decent defender
I dont know why mikhiterian kept the club becouse of age start , use Davide fratessi he is kreativa player really
The problem is management. Management have totally lost their way. Inter not winning anything with Marotta in charge. Why they kept Bisseck? Bisseck cost the team the title last year and he could have been sold to buy Lookman. Now the same old mediocrity and mistakes. Pavard should start all the games.
It’s not PlayStation.
Pavard can’t play every 3 days for 60 games.
selling a defender means you have to buy another defender because you are now short.
Bisseck didn’t cost us the match today.
Forwards missing massive scoring opportunities have cost us more points in the last few years than defenders like Bisseck or Bastoni have.
I am really questioning many calls against Inter last season and starting again now, with DiMarco’s goal which was legit if you rewind. And why the network is not showing the reply also brings up issues of trust as well.
On DiMarco “Goal” , Thuram was briefly in an offside position on the initial ball into the box, but he got back onside before Sucic flick! It is extra dubious that the network didn’t show any replays? Just the lame graphic 5 mins later! I stopped and rewound the play a dozen times, while it is not perfect angle, Thuram definitely looks onside. The big question is what is going on with officiating again in Calcio Italia? It seems certain teams like Napoli always get the favorite calls to win even if they need to add enough extra time so they can win at last 7 mins, but obvious goals gets edited by corrupt FIGC officials, like Di Marco’s perfect onside strike!
Chivu tried everything to change the game tonight, but hopefully he’ll have learnt a few things from certain performances…. Fuck Hakan off! He doesn’t want to be here, and he isn’t fully committed…. Barella is our best choice for DCM right now, and Sucic looked better on the right… that leaves you the decision of whether to play Miki, Frattesi or Diouf on the left….
Thuram is just way too casual to be our number 9! I’d give Pio a run of games, with Binny coming on when defences start to tire… Pavard is way better than Bisseck, and has to start whenever possible…. It would be nice to have some more options, but unless something drastic happens tomorrow, the board have let Chivu down! What we need to do is get behind our coach, and see how much he can get out of the squad he’s been given….
I would start Frattesi on the left, and use Mikhi when veteran experience is needed. Frattesi scores goals; maybe if he starts regularly he will improve his defensive skills and creativity.
I dont know why mikhiterian kept the club becouse of age start , use Davide fratessi he is kreativa player really
Chivu need time to adjust as well as the rest of the team. Its only the second game and honestly we weren’t that good against Torino either. No one was impressive yesterday, and it’s clearly that some players have been in decline lately. I hope that Chivu has the balls to make changes if players do not perform over time. I totally agree and think Thuram would thrive as a left winger if we changed formation.
making changes will not help in itself, first you need to have quality players to act substitutions. Most of our first-choice midfielders are in decline, past their prime, Hakan, Mikhi, Zielinski with no proper back-ups..our aging defense can not catch up with fast moving, skillful attackers, our attack needs some fast, skillful midfielders in the background who can dribble past their men and create chances. We have none of this currently
Not really “progress” when you buy players like Bonny, Diouf etc and start bisseck.
If anything we’ve gone backwards
I agree, they promised great summer purchases, they spent less than most clubs and kept all old players ? This is the third horrible transfer season now. Look at Napoli, Milan, Juve, Roma compare to Inter, they actually did buy and we didn’t do much again.
I agree. Second goal concede is on Bissek, too much space given……. And this is not the first time he did so. Last season the handball to Pedro is also he gave too much space for the opponent to shoot.
you only need to put barella in chala’s place. i already said since last year chala isnt able to play with tempo of the match because he is direct type. he tends to send the ball up quickly.
barella certainly able to play with tempo bcoz he is good with his both feet short n long pass. if you are up 1-0 or play away you need deep laying playmaker that can play with tempo (sadly we don’t have brozo type anymore)
n stop saying drop old mikhi he is the only one who is great at covering midfield area. i don’t know whether diouf can do or not.
