A nightmare, from start to finish. Congratulations to Milan who did what we all expected, played a limited game and made the best of what they have knowing that a victory was all that mattered. Something that can not be said of Walter Mazzarri’s Inter. A lack of cohesion was evident from the first minute, the play was disjointed and the commitment seemed to be lukewarm at best. The strikers pressed whilst the midfield sat deep, the ball was switched from side to side at a pace that can only be described as laborious. Gone was the vibrant nature of Inter’s first 45 minutes against Napoli, replaced by an attitude which we’ve seen previously under Mazzarri. A tepid, cautious, stagnant display followed much like those witnessed against Sampdoria, Cagliari, Chievo and Catania earlier this season. Was this planned or a reaction from the eleven players on the pitch? To me it seemed like Mazzarri had sent his team out not to lose, to maintain the gap between themselves and their City rivals. What that translated to on the pitch was an Inter that looked uncertain and a distinct inability to express themselves.
The wrong pass being played, poor decision making across the pitch and an apathy which plagued the team all night long. Nagatomo, Kovacic and Hernanes threatened to provide a spark on rare occasions but it was never enough. Mazzarri was far too late reacting to the poor display his players were giving, in fact it took Milan’s goal to even force the Inter coach into changes. Each change was for the worse. Cambiasso’s exit left gaps all over the midfield, Guarin like last week struggled to provide any attacking spark. Milito’s entrance was met with enthusiasm until everybody watching realised that just like Icardi and Palacio before him he wouldn’t receive any decent service either. Ricky Alvarez is a shadow of the player which started the season and by the end it felt like Inter could have played for days without scoring. The switch to a back 4 should have made a difference but the lack of utilising Javier Zanetti in his final derby was simply mind boggling. In a derby that was slipping away from Inter Mazzarri refused to at least let the stadium and fixture pay it respects to the ultimate of professionals. I understand this is a results business but for me that left a sour taste beyond just Inter’s shameful performance.
Mazzarri played for a draw and got what his negativity deserved. The players can only give an answer as to why they played a derby which meant so much to some of Inter’s finest players in such a way. In the end, Inter’s poor run at the San Siro continued and many Interisti were left asking questions of both the tactics used and the performance given by those in black and blue.
Inter played Mazzarri Soccer to perfection – boring, no creativity, no talent just running and horizontal passing and Inter lost because of AC Milan’s tactics. The game could have easily been 3-0 just be thankful for the post and the linesman. why complain about WM? let me tell you why……look at Napoli, they invested in the team and with Benitez as coach they are in 3rd place that’s worse than last year under WM but you know what – they play entertaining soccer with some youngsters like Insigne – who never played or developed under Mazzarri and Callejon and Mertens. What would you rather have – boring soccer and second place *OR* entertaining soccer and 3rd place. I would take the second option because winning is one thing but winning in style is another. I would hire Strama back in an instant but if not strama try Simeone/Zenga/Mihajlovic someone who knows Inter not some guy who’s used to fighting off relegation with every team he coached.
Oh I don’t know. Ask any real coach. Winning’s winning. Hazard criticised Mourinho for anti-football but when it works it’s beautiful. There’s nothing like surrendering 70% possession and winning 2-0 or whatever.
That said neither Benitez or Mazzarri have managed the ‘winning’ bit. Strama, Mou, Simeone, Mancini… There are endless numbers of better options. Villas-Boas?
fans that are desperate to win at no cost is why Inter is thinking very short-term with this team. that’s part of the reason why WM is coach of this team. that’s only part of the reason why inter sucks……..don’t you see how many fans are fed up after watching the derby? then you look at a game like Catania – roma and watch how amazingly good Catania played – fast, entertaining, strategic and then you look at Inter play Milan, no spirit – no action – just 11 robots on the field doing their job because they get paid to. let’s face it – those Inter players just didn’t give a crap at all there was no passion. with strama you can feel the passion but it was lost after half the team was injured. WM has a healthy team and he can’t motivate them and they only play 1 day a week ! he’s never been fired because he kisses ass not because of his performances.
I would happily accept Miha if Simeone were not available.
Someone need to tell Mr President by anything, Inter needs to grow up. The first thing is replace Mazzari position next season.
i have no problem keeping mazzarri but i will never forgive him for not playing zanetti last night
I am with you 100%. Shame of Mazzarri. He had not right. Specially when he played (Ronaldo-Wanna-be) Guarin
An absolutely pathetic game…unwatchable…
a real ‘black eye’ for Italian football.
Unfortunately, it’s not just the Milan sides we have to worry about…Serie A hasn’t just fallen behind the top leagues in Spain, England and Germany…I’d say they’ve also fallen behind France, Holland and several others.
As for Inter, I believe Mazzari has to go…if he can’t manage a better performance than this, at this stage of the season, with a healthy squad and no European commitments to distract or fatigue them, well, he clearly doesn’t have what it takes. period.
Strama had far more to deal with than Mazzari…it’s not even remotely comparable…and yet Inter never looked this bad under Strama…never were they this ugly…never.
I have not seen an Inter this bad since Zaccaroni.
I guess you forgot about Gasperini and Lippi….
no I didn’t.
WM didnt play JZ in his last derby… no respect at all. Even milanisti will give JZ standing ovation if he enter the game. f#ck you mazzari…
I wasn’t Mazzarri’s biggest fan before this game. Even though he has done a good job by making us concede less goals I don’t like his inability to make changes and take chances. I don’t see him getting this club back to greatness even with reinforcements. I think his squad is at least as good as the one Stramaccioni had and Mazzarri’s experience should make more of a difference than it has.
These were my problems before the game last night. When he didn’t let Javier Zanetti enter the game he sealed his fate in my book. Anyone with knowledge of, and respect for ,Zanetti, Inter and the fans of the club knows that you have to let him play in what most likely was his last derby. Pure incompetence and disrespect is what that is and puts Mazzarri right next to Tardelli and Benitez as the least likeable coaches since 1988/89.
Couldn’t agree now. An absolute disgrace with zanetti especially with Jonathan doing nothing. At least Zanetti would have bought passion and leadership to the field. I couldn’t believe how lacklustre the team were. How scared. Just a dismal effort
I need “like this comment” button haha
When he choose not to play Zanetti, he is over for me.
Sack or trophy (if you had the time to), only will heal my wound for Zanetti’s last blow.
Danny is my hero
damn you Mazzarri, when I starting put our trust in you, you even not know how to respect our legend. Even for a single minute he did not play on his last derby!
I care less about the result even when we lost the game. But you choose not to play Zanetti is another big problem.
well i choose to lose the derby and having Zanetti played for the last time for the derby, even for some minutes, but what do i got? lose on derby and no respect at all for the legend, that’s too much!
yes the team seems like they have no passion whatsoever, but it is the part of the coach job to manage the players in characters and emotion too. but with shit characters and attitude like Mazzarri as the coach, what characters can we expect from the team? nobody asking that we should win every game, but the right mentality is never shown with Mazzarri as the coach. again, attitude is the only problems i have with the coach, just that.
This guy does goes below the word disgraceful if there is any. For all of 2014 we did NOTHING. Pure luck!! I do not understand why he’s so reluctant to attack with the team. I saw ZERO passion from Inter!! This was the worst game I’ve witnessed in my entire life!!! I’m under total shock. I can’t see this guy staying at Inter. It would be a disaster. I would love to see Simeone. A true champion with truer passion for football and life. Over the dead weight Mazzari who just failed miserably. Inter did not play in Europe this season!! He has all the time to prepare well and charge his players to give their all!! We did not have many injuries this season. I truly do not understand how could this guy not get results. He does not coach for Inter. He coaches for himself. We need a guy who loves and cares about the club more than he does to himself! I can only think of one Interisti. Diego Simeone. Please Thohir. This guy is the only guy who can save Inter.
Losing the derby is never good. But this was just another game on the schedule and Milan wanted it more and we got beat. Its not all just automatically on Mazzarri. As a whole our team was thoroughly out played and never showed that they really wanted to win this game. That is on the players just as much as the coach. I love Kovacic as much as anyone but it was his foolish challenge outside the box that gave balo the free kick where they scored. When it comes down to it we needed 4 its from the last 3 games. A draw would not have been the worst thing against this Milan team who are hitting pretty solid form right now. Overall, a disappointing showing from Inter who are only making life harder for themselves needing at minimum a win and a draw in the last 2 games vs Lazio and Chievo.
The people crying #MazzarriOut need to grow up and get behind our coach and team. You can’t win every game, thats football. We can still finish this season strong and be in a good position to have a great season next year with better players and better stability in the club
Only stupid one who cares about Mazzari. I watch this game and we saw how Inter lack of tactic and cofidence..
Strama is better than him
You don’t judge a coach based on one game. Every one is so goddamn dramatic. its a game and sometimes Inter are on the losing side. its not the end of the world. Even Mourinho loses. no coach is perfect. We have seen signs of a true team this year under Mazzarri. If you haven’t seen that then you probably don’t know football.
What doesn’t help a club is when coaches come and go like a revolving door. Mazzarri has proven in his career that he is a great coach. in his first year at inter we saw a defense with a back 3 let in far less goals from strama’s team last year and at times have a true identity in possession and attacking. All of while the owner of club changes, the teams aging legends are getting ready to move on, and new players are adapting to a new system of play. You cannot look at a single game or even a season in a vacuum. We have the chance to play in a european tournament next year after finishing last year 9th with a negative goal differential.
But no, you’re right we should bring back strama or some other name to condemn ourselves to another transitional year instead of building upon things that are in the process of getting established and show signs that this team has a big future.
What Inter needs is some faith from the fans that we recognize that this is a project and we don’t need to jump ship every time things get difficult.
Its hard enough as it is knowing that we might have to say goodbye to Zanetti, Milito, Cambiasso, and Samuel.
The team needs support not us trying to find a scapegoat when we’re not happy
everyone who wants Mazzarri out is not judging him just by this game only, its been all of this time. improvement u said? nothing, we concede less goals compared to last season simply because there is no injury with this team. you forgot to say that Strama are playing more games in UCL and coppa, and losing half of his team, plus shitty transfers by Branca aside of Kovacic, so what can you expect? if Strama got his players full team, his Inter will definitely much better than what Mazzarri has today.
now what if Mazzarri are playing in UCL, coppa, and losing half of this team? it will be worse! yes indeed Mazzarri lose lesser than Strama, but he win less than Strama too. Mazzarri just play not to lose.
identity? what identity, i see nothing but such an unstable team in terms of spirit and morality.
changing coaches indeed is not a good thing. but keeping the wrong one are the same. what will happens if keeping Mazzarri turns out to be a wrong decision in the end of next season? another transitional year again? such a clown Mazzarri is.
i agree that mazzari is better kept than sacked , you all have to agree that the current players in inter aren’t the best . Step by step is the way to go , no more Moratti decisions on sacking and hiring managers. We want a team that is built on one ideology , we want to build a team that will be in the champions league next season and possibly win the league . If we can sell all the players that are emptying inter’s pockets for no good and buy a good winger , a good striker , and defending midfielder , Mazzari will probably do better
Peter, I think most people posting on here have evaluated Mazzarri through the entire season. I feel he is horrible and have said it since he was hired. He shows poor game management, has no feel for what is actually going on during play, has ZERO passion for Inter at all. Today’s result is magnified because it is the derby and Zanetti’s last derby. No way whatsoever should he have not played. It simply is a huge insult to the most professional player in the world period. I am all for consistency at Inter but WM is not the answer. He is NOT, NEVER been, NEVER will be a winner. He simply is beneath the quality that Inter need long term.
a great coach? what has he won to prove that he is a great coach? a coppa Italia with Napoli ?? that’s not my idea of a great coach. He’s an average coach with below average entertainment aspect for the fans. But don’t worry, if the team plays like crap and they win is that acceptable for Inter fans? no offence but it should not be acceptable.
You must be new to football, Peter.
Ok. lets see if Inter management agrees with me or you this summer when Mazzarri either stays or leaves
Peter, i agree with what you are saying truly as it takes time to build a team. He has improved the team to some aspects and even hernanes said that ONE of the reasons he came to inter was because of mazzari ( anyone reading this i repeat one of the reasons ). However, what really put me off today is two things. He did not seem like in control of the team TODAY and he did not put in zanetti. Ok alot of people here say why they did not play zanetti because its his last game and mazzari said before he will play accordance to the technical ability of a player not because the contract is ending. lets say zanetti is not able to do much in this game in terms of technical ability, but Zanetti is the heart and soul of inter. When he plays, sometimes u just see players are more confident as he has been in the derby many times before. When he graces himself in the derby you see everyone trying harder and pushing harder. What mazzari Failed to understand is that he needed Leadership in this team to win this derby and there is no leadership like zanetti. Cambiasso failed in this derby but maybe hes not accustomed to seeing one of his dearest friend his companion his captin in the bench.. so in other words mazzari truly disrespected an icon at this club by not allowing zanetti to play not just because of his last derby but because the team needed leadership and he did not give it to them.
What did he achieve at Napoli????? His insistence on playing the same 11 guys each match made his games in CL and EL useless. He merely survived in Napoli as they had no expectations. They were happy to just be in Serie A after all. Why should Inter settle for him?
Also, good coaches use the players at their disposal to their strengths not his. That means if you have fish you cannot make steak essentially. Use what you have to the fullest, lesser coaches do this all the time. Do not say I am trying to establish an identity for Inter. Inter has an identity since 1908 fool!
Mr.J9guy..i would like to comment on this “Do not say I am trying to establish an identity for Inter. Inter has an identity since 1908 fool!”
your clearly out of ur mind… me and el principe were talking about inters identity on the field.. we would never judge inters actual identity.. could you please not attack a fellow inter fan like that..
My reply on what he did at napoli well hes doing great at inter in terms of team building and stabilizing the team. That is exactly why inter brought him despite whatever anyone is saying.. I am almost certain that if they host the 2016 champions league that inter will bring someone suitable for this prestigious championship.. some people seem to forget one crucial point.. mourinho told moratti he will come back in few years but since thohir took over this might’ve changed a bit.. so after next year i think thohir is going to bring someone suitable for champions league in 2016
1. What is Inters identity this season?
2. More or less everything eiryk said..
Inters identity is not seen clearly mazzari does not have the right players my friend.. You can’t just say oh well u have these players and u have a limited budget as well.. and your forced to show us the identity of the team.. Mazzari had lavezzi, cavani Hamsik inler berhami maggio Zuniga.. Etc. if you want to know what style inter are supposed to be playing just see last years napoli games and you will understand.. Enough of this inter has no identity bullshit… It took mazzari time to achieve what he achieved in napoli and he has never been fired in serie a ( which is almost impossible unless u were mourinho).. Our players are not champions ( except for the obvious Zanetti Samuel ..etc) give mazzari one more year and we will c..
@interista2199 I think you did not really understand my point. My point is that Mazzarri must make the best of what he has to use, just like he did at Napoli. That is what good coaches do. As far as being out of my mind….I laugh at you. I have been an Interista probably since before your birth my friend. I know what the Inter identity is all about and if you think for a single second that Mazzarri understands it then you are sadly mistaken. It was crystal clear last night that he understands very very little of what Inter is about. If I have to continue to watch his half efforts at coaching much longer I will be very disappointed in Mr Thohir’s Inter.
Again I simply ask you…what the hell did WM actually accomplish at Napoli other than having all his good players sold for profit? He is not a loser but he is no winner either. He is a survivor and that says a lot for sure in Serie A but he will never win anything that matters with his approach. Maybe he is what Inter needs in this short term as we are looking at survival in many ways as well. But for us to win he must be gone.
agree with you. as much as i hate how terrible we were in last night’s derby, i am still against this mazzarriout sackmazzarri kind of thing. it’s just plain stupid to do that after what we had through this season. he only had another year left in his contract so just let him finish it and evaluate him afterward. if things doesn’t improve after some reinforcement that he asked than please cut him up. but sack him after just a season and all the improvement this team made is, as i said, just a plain stupid move
the problem is that in some games that we won ( like against Parma ), we won without playing football, just because of luck. So if in some games we lose and in some win by shit playing….no thanks i don’t like it.
Loved it Ben specially “Mazzarri played for a draw and got what his negativity deserved.” Sack Mazzari so we won’t waste another season. #SackWM #sack mazzari #MazzariOUT
