Inter Milan had to survive a late scare in Bergamo to beat Atalanta 1-0 in Sunday’s mouth-watering Serie A showdown.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri delivered a ‘mature’ performance at the Gewiss Stadium.

Cristian Chivu steered his side back on track following a morale-wracking Supercoppa Italiana defeat to Bologna last week.

Indeed, Lautaro Martinez scored a winning goal to help the 20-time Serie A champions return to the top of the table.

Despite dominating possession and wasting several glorious chances, Inter nearly dropped two points last night.

However, Atalanta star Lazar Samardzic wasted a sitter in the 87th minute, firing a close-range shot well off target.

Samardzic’s late miss propelled the Nerazzurri to three precious points and reminded Chivu of one glaring issue.

Indeed, Inter couldn’t kill the game off despite being a better team, which nearly came back to haunt them.

Furthermore, the 45-year-old manager even had to change his formation late in the game to protect a narrow lead.
