In a long analysis of the first 100 days of Roberto Mancini in his second spell at Inter, La Gazzetta dello Sport explains how the Inter coach has managed to regenerate many players, among them Rodrigo Palacio and Fredy Guarin, but has not succeeded in doing the same with Hernanes: Mancini holds il Profeta in high esteem but to date he has provided very few answers. The other flop is Lukas Podolski, but he has yet to settle in Italy and in Serie A.

Palácio?????
If the rumour is true that Kova is being molded into a winger such as the style of Silva…Mancini is definitely trying to make Inter into a Man City esque team…I feel that Kova has the potential to fulfil such a role as Silva is very quick, has great balance and quick feet similar to Kova; it will be interesting if this is true!
If this is true, this will be another huge mistake. For winger it’s required other qualities speed, good one on one play, good cross, good shot and scoring instincts. Kovacic is totally different kind of player, he’s not winger, he’s not trequarista, he’s similar to Pirlo, a deep lying playmaker. Imagine what will looks like if you try to making Pirlo winger? Shaqiri it’s not a winger too and look how his game improves when he was moved behind the strikers, when is his best position. We did the same thing with Coutinho and look what he’s doing now in Liverpool!
I’m really hoping for kova and podo to improve… but hernanes seems to be just utterly lost, we should sell him and get rid of his high salary and get maybe 7 mil out of him
I think we’ll end up keeping Podolski despite the fact that he’s not proven to be effective so far. Still, he’ll be a free agent at the end of this season and he should start improving as he gets to know the league more and more. I doubt we’ll have many other choices if we don’t qualify for Europe, so we’ll be happy to have Poldi.
As for Hernanes, I’m massively disappointed in him so far, I hope he does get some time on the pitch, though, just to see how good or bad he really is.
Kovacic has been mediocre too
He always plays in the last 10 minutes… it’s kind of unfair
He plays in the point where most players are worn out. He should do better imo.
It’s true that his performances since Mancini arrived have been below his standards and what people expect of him in general.
However, I think we have to look at things in context with him. This is still a very unbalanced squad, and Mancini is having a hard time implementing Kovacic because he doesn’t have the freedom to play the systems that he probably prefers (he started with 4-2-3-1, which accommodates both Kovacic and Shaqiri, but since that wasn’t working, he had to go to another system, which doesn’t accommodate wingers, so Shaqiri has to play elsewhere, and the only other place is behind the strikers. Kovacic is then left with a role in midfield, currently occupied by a massively important Brozovic and an “in form” Guarin).
Also, he’s lately getting very little time on the pitch. You can’t blame him for not having an effect. Kovacic is being trained for a different role, and I’m sure he’ll be back in no time. We can’t afford not having him as a starter, it doesn’t make sense.
Lets not forget that when Mazzarri arrived Kovacic was also deemed to “lack the quality”. He quickly adapted to the play and became the central player of our game. I’m sure he’ll rise up to the task again, but I think Mancini won’t stick with 4-3-1-2 for long, think he has something else in mind.
We mustn’t lose hope in the boy, I feel that he’s perhaps the most talented player we have on the squad, think he’ll end up being bigger than Shaqiri.
The thing that is bugging me is this:
The excuse of him playing badly was because he wasn’t playing behind the strikers. Then Mancini played him behind the strikers, and kova flopped. Then the excuse was that he needed space to operate. Ok… he placed him in a deep position to give him space and he still didn’t play well.
Actually, he was very good in midfield while playing under Mazzarri, Mancio saw him as a trequartista he can mold in his own image (having played as a trequartista himself). Since that’s not working, rumor has it Mancini wants to transform him into a winger now, perhaps something similar to David Silva.
Hope he finds a place!
Many matches provided in the remaining season to play them as team needed, then simultaneously Mancio evaluate them all, while Ausillio doing his “magic”….. Forza Inter….
