The race for a Europa League place has gotten even more complicated for both Milanese clubs ahead of Sunday night’s Milan derby.
Genoa tonight beat Parma in their rearranged fixture 2-0 thanks to goals from Iago Falque on 14 minutes and Pavoletti on 31 minutes.
Tonight’s result sees Genoa leapfrog Inter, Milan and Torino to sit alone in 7th place. Inter are now in 10th place, 3 points behind Genoa.

Realistically I think the best we can do is 7th place. Sampdoria is on 6th with 8 points advantage and if they keep form, we can’t catch them. 7th place is 3 points away. If you expect better, remember, we drew Parma, lost to Sampdoria…
It seems that Europa League is not achievable at this moment because we are 8 points behind 5th placed Fiorentina and we have 8 games left, of which 5 games are against Juve, Lazio, Roma, Milan, and Udinese. Inter lost 5 points against Parma, 2 points against Cesena, 3 points against Sampdoria, 3 points against Sassuolo, 2 points against Empoli, 3 points against Torino, 3 points against Udinese, 1 point against Hellas Verona, 3 points against Cagliari. THIS INTER DOES NOT DESERVE EUROPEAN COMPETITION! We need revolution this summer.
blessing in disguise, starting to believe in primavera if we got ffp sanctions
lets take the positive
A mediocre team that doesn’t deserve to be representing Inter. 10th is credibly where this horrible team belongs. Inter requires a revolution in the summer.
Let’s just keep winning for dignity and then if we enter EL then so be it
At this point, I’m not sure I want us to get into the EL. That means FFP regulation, that means no spending, that means shit squad for next season as well, that means slowly sinking further down.
The way I see it, if we’re out of Europe, it’s more difficult to lure players in, but we can spend more money. If Mancini can influence good enough players to arrive this summer and form up a squad that’s worthy of qualifying for the CL, we’ve pulled off a real feat. Even EL qualification for next season is decent if we can get players that will actually make the club grow and if Mancini can stabilize the ship.
EL’s impossible this season anyway; we’re not good enough and there’s plenty of competition. Let’s just make this our last “year zero”. Get Jovetic, Murillo, Darmian and Toure or Allan and sell the dead wood.
YAS!
1. if we go on our spending spree and assumed we get to europe, we’ll still have to face ffp in the next season and would almost surely getting some penalty.
2. if we go on our spending spree and fail again, we’ll sink even more
3. we’ll have hard time just to keep the players we have. and then hoping to get some “good” new players? what good players would want to go to a team that didn’t even make it to europe.
4. yet we’ll still have a chance to get new “good” players. and that is if other team that wanted the same players are not good enough compared to us
5. mancini influence good players to arrive? hahahahaha
I don’t see why you’re laughing about Mancini influencing the arrival of good players – after all that’s how we got Shaqiri and Brozovic this winter (when no one really expected us too and when we faced difficult competition in Liverpool for Shaqiri).
Mancini has a very good relationship with Man City and with most players there – if we can get any of their outcasts (Jovetic, Yaya, maybe Kolarov, Milner…) we’ll be lucky.
The thing is that this “steady growth” obviously isn’t working – Thohir has to understand that the club won’t make money without the team improving first – it takes investing in what happens on the pitch as well as off it. He is coming to realize that marketing isn’t worth much if you’re marketing a team that can’t beat the likes of Parma and Cagliari and is at the middle of the table.
It’s a risk, but I’m sure Thohir has taken loads of those on his way to becoming such a successful businessman. He just needs to understand football a little better because he doesn’t have too much experience in it yet.
If we’re stupid enough to get Manchester City outcasts with huge salaries and over their prime like Milner, Kolarov, Sagna, etc. it’ll be disaster, not luck!
Yeah we’re far better off with the likes of Jonathan and Guarin.
i don’t really know how much bro was influenced since there was no statement about it. but people tends to assume that shaqiri came because there is mancini, instead of because mancini was the one who tell him what role shaq would be taking in his formation. so that’s a totally different thing. we all know there is no chance he would be getting here if he got some playing time in bayern, so all he needed is playing time. and between us and pool, it is a logical that here is the better place for him to get those playing time. wasn’t you was one of the person who post something about our good chance to get him because we can give him the first team play instead of pool if i’m not mistaken?
the only one can be categorized as outcast is only jovetic. and he can’t be have very good relationship with him since mancini was not the one who brought him to city. he was sacked before jovetic came to city. while milner seems going to sign an extension and yaya seems…well if you saw the manchester derby you’ll know how yaya seems to look like now.
yes he is a successfull businessman, and you need to take risk in business. but this is not pure business. we are already in bad spot right now and taking that kind of decision, for me, will have some 55 to 60% chance to take us in an even worse spot. not to mention if we’ll kick out some first team player to invest on new players, they all will need to gel again, hence need another time. with a lot of expense means a lot of expectations. a lot of expectations means less patient. and i don’t think i need to tell you about how far away the distance between the word inter and patient is
Of course mate, don’t get me wrong, there is no single factor that made Shaqiri arrive.
But Shaqiri himself or his agent (not sure which) said that it was Mancini who was decisive to bring the boy to Inter.
Being guaranteed a starting spot made a huge difference too, but I don’t think the position did much, because Shaq has changed positions a couple of times since he arrived, and Mancini isn’t playing the formation he originally had planned for (tried 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 but it wasn’t working, so then he switched to 4-3-1-2, and now he’s back at 4-3-3… it’s basically chaos).
I think there will be a slight overhaul at City this summer, this is why I think lots of players will be available. And I find Mancini’s authority as a major improvement to what we had under Mazzarri in that sense – surely he is a much more reputable coach.
I’m not sure about MIlner, I think he’s a good player but I don’t know how he’d fit in at the Serie A. His future is quite difficult to foresee right now.
As for Toure – I think he just needs a change – the man’s not done yet. Whether it’s worth it or not will depend on the money we will have to pay to get him. But bottom line is that he is a leader, a massive player and we need one like that in our midfield. If we already had one like him I’d prefer Allan over Toure 😛
As for kicking out first team players – I think it’s necessary; firstly out of financial reasons, and then due to the fact that most of these guys have had plenty of time to gel and have failed to do so (Hernanes and Guarin, Ranocchia, even JJ, Jonathan etc.)
here is shaq’s statement
“Then there were two phone calls from Mancini. We had two good chats. I immediately felt like I would be very important for him.”
“At my age, what interested me most was the chance to play regularly, which hadn’t happened a lot lately.”
“Mancini
explained to me that I would see a lot of time on the pitch..”
if you read it carefully, it definitely indicated that what he wanted was just some play time. it shows that it was never about who the coach is, but it was about what the coach will do. all along i’ve been saying it was all just about game time. mancini’s name came up because he is the coach, yet any other person who said the same will pretty much gain the same output.
there seems going to be some managerial changes again in city. so i don’t really think there would be any decision about transfer before they resolve the manager issue. and players like jovetic might get his chance there with the new manager which also might even convince yaya to stay, so it’s still not clear if there would be an overhaul or not.
for toure, isn’t that was what made us took vidic? because he is, was, a massive player and a leader. look what happened to him. i don’t believe this transfer could be any good the same that i don’t believe vidic’s transfer would boost the defense.
well how can you gel with people when every 8 months or so you played in a new system, trying to do new things, adapt into new position, or playing with new partners. just look at kova for example. he’ll become the next ranocchia, couldn’t put up to expectations, if he keeps getting this new play, new role, new position kind of things every season
I know about Shaq, but why didn’t he arrive while Mazzarri was here? We were after him even before Mancini arrived.
Mancini is a renowned coach, players respect him (though I don’t think he’s a top coach as far as tactics go), much more so than was the case with Mazzarri or Stramaccioni before him. His reputation is currently above our team’s and this is what we need + the club’s tradition to lure the big ones in.
I agree about the managerial change in City, though, it’s pretty much sure that Pellegrini will be leaving. I find it likely that Yaya wants to leave anyway, though, and the same goes for Jovetic who just seems fed up on waiting for them. Not necessarily Kolarov or Milner.
Vidic is more or less a fair point though, despite the fact I had a much lower opinion of Vidic before he arrived compared to Toure. Think Vidic had already declined much more than Yaya currently is, but you never know.
it was bayern who was actually didn’t want to sell him before. they even rejected offer from arsenal and pool in the summer. they already lost kroos to madrid and alcantara due to injury while their german national team players would be so tired after some long world cup. normal that they would rather keep him.
Come to think of it, it does make sense… fair point.
I still think that Mancini does have influence, I may even be overstating it, but I think it’s there.
until he proved it otherwise, i wouldn’t believed that. and i’m still waiting for him to prove me wrong.
Looking at the discussion you’ve been having with the other guys, i’m in agreement with most points you’re making. However, it seems there’s not much clarity from anyone, regarding FFP. Though I have not investigated this issue in any way, it is my understanding that FFP is applied to how much money is coming in compared to how much money is outlaid within a financial year. It seems to be regardles of how much debt a club has and more to do with cash flow, maybe i’m wrong?? But Fassone has been directly quoted as saying this is the first year we aren’t in minus figures. Also, a figure of 60 mil for spending has been branded about a few times. So with regards to europe, I think it’s probably better (but not the end of the world) If we get in as that will give us slightly more power on the market. And as far as FFP sanctions, I get the impression that it won’t be much if any at all?? On a seperate note it would be nice if there was an article clarifying all this??
