Two days on from the Match for Expo and the retirement of the Inter number 4 shirt, Javier Zanetti has been speaking to Corriere dello Sport’s Web TV about the reception he received at San Siro on Monday, Inter’s present and future and also Calciopoli.
The reception at the San Siro:
“I tried to build my career based on respect so it feels particularly gratifying when I see that fans, and not only Nerazzurri fans, care about me.”
Inter’s present and future:
“Our aim is to put together a competitive side in the shortest space of time possible. It’s going to be a challenge given that Italian football isn’t going through the best of times at the moment, but together with the rest of the management, with president Thohir and the Moratti family, we’ll do everything in our power to take Inter back to where the club belongs.”
“In any case, I think the fact there are three Italian teams in the semi-finals of the European competitions this season is a sign that our game is on the up again. I do hope things are turning around. Hopefully we’ll see new stadiums built that are family friendly and more comfortable, and they’ll help to change the mentality.”
Calciopoli:
“It’s a black page in Italian football history. Unfortunately it happened and everyone saw it. You can’t pretend you’ve forgotten everything. But we do all have to move on now.”

Inter should have a solid foundation to build on. hopefully this is NOT just a case of pride or we’ll be back in transition period again.
He is just perfect human being.
Just put the jersey back on and get on the field, Captain. There’s some imposter wearing your armband, show him how it’s done.
if you look into Inter history correctly, its another imposter that eventually turns out to be a legend. in my lifetime as fan, i saw how bergomi then left for JZ4 to wore the armband and you think he received a warm welcome? no. it was hell. he was criticized for being too quiet and lack of leadership. others call for the likes of Baggio or before that Pagliuca for the captaincy. and now it seems people have forget, and they chanting his name. so, respect the captain., whoever he is.
youve been saying that for 3 or 4 yrs now…i just hope we win something next year… im tired of waiting
LOL, last time I wait for almost 10 years for Scudetto on field
True, and needless to say that at that time we had a fat wallet, there was no FFP, and Serie A was the top league in the world.
