Massimiliano Nebuloni spoke with SkySport24 about problems Inter have, one of which he suggests is lack of a true regista.
“For a team to play well a team without a regista is like expecting a nice film without a director” he started out.
He carried on, “Since then [when the last true regista in Thiago Motta left for PSG in 2012] Inter have brought in many players, but never a midfielder who excelled in geometry. A structural defect, that Inter carries around for years and that even in this window has been unable to eliminate. In Verona, the team struggled to create the game and it is normal if the Nerazzurri appointed this task to Gary Medel , who is irreplaceable for other reasons, but ultimately unsuitable in that type of work. Joao Mario , Moussa Sissoko and Luiz Gustavo are three excellent players, but none of the three are a regista, who would serve at Inter to increase the quality in midfield and get closer to Naples and Rome. Banega is not a deep lying playmaker and he can’t be either because it goes against his nature of being able to move around without the ball and affect the game better from an advanced position.”

Mr. Nebuloni definitely has the right idea, Inter need to sign a TRUE regista in someone like Biglia and move Banega to the trequartista role, who has excellent passing, but certainly not the defensive ability to be a regista in Serie A. I know De Boer is insistent on playing a 4-3-3, but this Inter side is only built towards a 4231, which isnn’t that different of a formation, but allows the team more cover defensively, particularly on the wings for our weak fullbacks. I was seeing the exact same problems vs Chievo as we saw all last year, even with Banega on the field as what seemed to be a regista, which is that there is little to no connection between the midfield and forwards. We could sign 3 registas, but they would never have the same effect without a trequartista, mostly because of the way our strikers play. Icardi, Jovetic, and now seemingly Eder since he looks very sluggish to start the season, all play in a way that warrants them receiving direct passes in small spaces that gives them an immediate chance at goal, maybe having to beat a single defender. They’re not the types of strikers to make a rapid run passed the defensive line for a long ball played from a regista, or at least not often enough to prove effective. A regista would help to get the ball to the trequartista, Banega, or switch play out to the wings, Perisic and Candreva, who can then dictate play to the striker. I still have hope for this team, but I’m truly disappointed in how terrible management has been in building the team, especially if the goal was supposed to be to build the team around Icardi, who needs plays to be made for him.
I’m always laugh at people who says ‘Banega is a regista’ well he is not! can he be forced to play the post? maybe.. but certainly he is not a regista..
So davy klaasen could be the answer..bring him in Thohir
It’s obvious.. why the management can’t see this?
Medel is good but his actual position is CB
the last true regista was Cambiasso not Motta (although Motta is a good one too). Yup, I’m confused why they’re still pushing for Joao Mario and Sissoko which are more like box to box midfielders to me.
Cambiasso is not a regista..
but he played that role once Motta left
Banega can be the regista, he has great defensive qualities too.
but he played different role in spain, deeper in defence. he is an excelent player, but it would be very nice to keep him in his best position (the spanish one) and add him a true regista and have both of them as creators; one in 1st and 2nd third and one in 2nd and 3rd part of the pitch.
The answer is Geiss. Young, strong, talented, can run.
We had one in the past though (kovacic), but we sold him and bought kondogbia, who is not all that great.
Kova was also not that great in that position. He is uneducated young man who skipped classes but has a great talent. Great talent in football is like a Ferrari with baaaad tyres.
any data, video about geiss ??
He’s an excellent free-kick taker and knows how to move the ball. Kid is going to be sought after by everyone come January.
thanks, seems he could be useful for inter.
