After working with Gary Medel during his time in charge of the Chilean national team, Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli is a well-known admirer of “Il Pitbull”. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that the Spanish side find themselves linked with a move to re-sign their former midfielder.

During his pre-Villarreal press conference, the Argentine coach fielded questions on rumours suggesting he had specifically asked the Sevilla hierarchy to sign Medel. According to his club’s official website, he replied: “Maybe Medel can arrive, though at the moment it is difficult because we are covered in all positions. However, if there was even the slightest chance of signing him, I would be the first to want that.”

Piero Ausilio has repeated many times that the Nerazzurri consider Medel unsellable, however it seems this has done little to deter Sampaoli who has clearly set his sights on a reunion with his former pupil.
