After Inter’s 1-1 draw against Palermo, the nerazzurri’s captain and goalscorer Mauro Icardi spoke to Premium Sport about his side’s performance:
“It is almost September, and our physical condition is not an excuse. Today we created a lot of chances, but we could not score. Throughout the week we trained well, and we made some changes. We tried to implement what we learned into the match but we could not win. What do I think about Zanetti’s thoughts on my renewal? I did not hear what he said. I am calm, and I want to stay here. I did not hear what Zanetti said, but we are great friends. We see each other every day.”

Icardi need to work more on moving inside the box the way Medel did, its a shame to have players like Perisic and Candreva trying to find you to cross the ball over for you but they couldn’t, thats why they go back trying to find alternative choices or take the risk to loose the ball when bypassing defenders ( Candreva on the goal), just make it easy for them.
medel’s role on recent match just remain me gattuso on his prime…with him playing alongside banega as a regista, inter’midfilder getting better. fdb should find solution for kondogbia, maybe he should consider change his position as winger cause he like to beat oposition player
What I saw today at the stadium: santon is extremely poor and refused to pass forward when perisic was open more often than not. Dambrosio slowed down the play too often with his hesitation in possession, he gets the ball and freezes. Kondogbia is a terrible footballer, awful first touch, clumsy and can’t pass to an open teammate even after taking 3 touches. Oh and he gets muscled off the ball surprisingly easily despite his size. Bad vision. ICardi is very lazy and isn’t pressing the defense, holding up the ball or doing anything really. With iCardi today it was almost as if we were playing a man down. You may claim a fox in the box acts like so but remember the great number 9s did great off the ball running to stretch the defense. He was wasteful and lazy today and doesn’t deserve his contract, never mind the armband. Eder tries but he is a little too predictable. Aside from that perisic is a boss, banega may have been caught out sometimes in possession but we finally have a director. The others did well but we will never go far with santon and kondogbia: they are trash. Mcdonal mariga was better than kondogbia!
Way to go forgetting K-dog was our best player vs Chievo. Typical Inter mentality.
I hope inters enthusiasm improves over the coming weeks and in my opinion de boer needs to bring the team together I know its hard with international break and new signings but the transfer window shuts 3 days so lets finalize squad and work on team bonding and unity because inter need to come together and build combinations and build friendship so they become a group of men then fight for each other and die for each other like simione and atletico madrid at the moment players don’t understand each other and don’t know de boer that well and this is the result,,, I will say I love the way the squad looks like now the only little additions would be 2 defenders 1 fb and 1 cb to add depth and security
Pazza inter Milan i love the song we play before start of our home games,,, pazza inter milan
Im very upset after watching todays performance inter once again look disjo
inted and lacked motivation.i love inter but I can’t watch them playing this garbage I can’t work out why they look so disinterested and like they couldn’t be bothered running or giving a 100% effort I don’t know how this is going to change either because usually when players are acting this wsy its because of a deeper underlying problem and now mancini is gone whos to blame
We actually played well as a team today even if the result is disapointing…
We will definitely improve and Palermo was lucky, they had 2 chances, we had 5 or 6
I counted 9 bro. And that deflected goal just shows it wasn’t our day. But we are definitely on the up.
kondogbia always lost the ball, when inter had adventage to creating the chance. I hope mario will get the chance to play soon instead of kondogbia.
I think he did play well today. He did lost a few passes, we did we a lot of balls and he did try to drive the ball forward and took a lot of responsibility. I think he was one of the best.
Not only did he lost the ball and make bad passes quite often, he also frequently tried to beat opponents and hold on to the ball for too long i.e. did not passed the ball to open player when that was the best choice / option available. This happened quite a number of times in front of the D.
However, overall he did played a good game. Just need to reduce these mistakes.
from the very first time he played always did the same mistake…he never learn
Lol. He was our best player vs Chievo. A few bad passes this game and you want to drop him. Our attackers missed some sitters . Lets drop them too.
What the hell was Medel’s role today.. Out of Medel-Banega-Kondogbia he got the most offensive role and he still managed to pas backwards only. And not to mention those two sitters that he missed. How can someone use him as attacking mid I really don’t understand.
Besides that and Kondogbia’s passing, we played good and should’ve win this by 2-3 goal margine.
Kondogbia was so poor today
I must disagree with you. I think he was one of the best. He did win the ball back to us many times and to a lot of offensive initiative. I think he did try to take responsibility and did it well.
Watch the game again and count how many wrong passes did he have and how many times he lost he ball. The guy just can’t pass, even to an opet player..
I dont have the count. But try to count how many balls he did win and how much offensive initiative he did bring to the team. When you play you play with a risk and sometimes you make bad passes.
He did bring some offensive initiative but he screwed most of it with his poor passing and decisioning.. It wasn’t just sometimes that he made a bad pass, he made a bunch of bad passes. If he can’t connect passes he has no bussines being on the pitch.
His first touch on the ball is also poor, the ball is always getting away from him.
I was at San Siro, kondogbia was terrible, all he did was upset the crowd with his poor touch, poor passing and poor vision. When he ran with the ball he didn’t look for a pass and the crowd was calling him camel lol. He also tried to dive at one point and failed. In real life he comes off as extremely clumsy and imprecise. He has no business in midfield if he can’t pass… Also at one point we had a clear counter and we were attacking with 5 players, medel was alone and he tried to pass to him but instead passed to the opponent. If he can’t even get the pass right with 3 touches how will he play fdb one touch football? Overpriced turd
K-dog was a beast … His passing was below par though.
its more like what Banega’s role was… and that lead to medel being -sadly- in front of goal most of the times. but at least we got a glimpse that againts the majority of the league we can rely on possession so a one-dimensional DM won’t be needed in every game
if Mario was available or brozovic wouldnt be on his way out, we could have seen a different game
Banega’s role was regista and he played it very well.
yep, that is why medel was around the 18 yard box more than ever before
But why did he play it when we have Brozovic on the bench? Medel’s strenght is in defense and if we didn’t use him in that role he has no bussines being on the pitch.
probably because brozovic will be sold and they did not want to risk an injury for a 20m+ deal. sadly, our midfield is very short…
Ausilio said today that Broz is staying, I guess there are no real offer for him.
http://gianlucadimarzio.com/en/eng/inter-ausilio-brozovic-will-stay-jovetic-could-leave-a-defender-we-are-complete/
yeah i read that too, but if that were the case i think FdB would have used him… too suspicious 🙂
Yeah, that’s what baffels me too.
Yup he did generally well as a regista but he keeps the ball too much… It was his ball loss that lead to their goàl
Yep, that iritated me to, he did it in a couple of situation’s but that’s probably because Medel and D’Ambrosio run away from the ball and hide when they should be helping to carry the ball out. Banega is an intelligent player, I have no doubt that he will learn from this game and improve.
Hopefully de Boer is trying to get Banega and Kondogbia used to their roles and Mario can play in Medel’s role today
that’s what total football is all about.. everybody press high when we have the ball.. even miranda run to the forward position when he had a chance.. this system need top fitness level.. because they will attack and defence as a unit..
Yup…Even Miranda must dribble to pass the opponent.
I’m saying that Medel shouldn’t play that role, he is utterly useless in attacking third. The role itself is okay, the player that played it wasn’t. If there was some who is used to be in front of the goal, he would score those sitters that Medel missed.
medel did a good job today actually.. to be fair k-dog lose the ball more than medel did.. and who else we’re gonna put in that position? brozo? i think he’s on the way out, so i doubt de bour will use him and risking injury on him.. medel work rate is amazing and he’s so underated.. the coach know better who is ready to play btw..
In a role that he had today, he didn’t do well, if he did, he would have scored at least one goal and we would have three points. And even in a position that far up the pitch his passes were always going backwards. He tries hard and is passionate but he just don’t have the skills to play so far up the pitch.
If we had Broz today on the field, I’m sure we would have won. Ausilio said today that Broz is staying, I put the link to the interview on a comment bellow.
always pass backwards? not really, i remember at least 1 of his pass almost become an assist in this game.. and i doubt brozo will do better than him.. in this system everybody have to have a good positioning awareness when loosing the ball, that’s what brozo lack compare to medel.. if brozo play instead of medel, we will be in trouble when we lose the ball.. and today maybe we won’t even get a draw..
medel and positional awareness are two different things… he wanders off all the time, thats why he always ends up chasing his opponent like a mad dog instead of tackling him with good positioning. Banega did most of the dirty work in the 2nd half as he jogged back, completely out of position. despite FdB is forced to use him right now, he doesnt fit into his system at all
Role that Medel was playing today had a lot of freedom to move around the pitch however he wanted, half of the time he was in opponent box so I think that Brozo would do well in that role. And with his strong and precise shooting abilites he would probably score at least one of those chances.
how could you know he will scored? we don’t know when he would have his bad days.. when he had his bad day, most of the time he will shoot the birds.. look i rate brozo highly too.. but FDB will know better his condition and his tactical awareness..
Fdb is that someone, lol. I think he’s better in that position, pressing opponent first when they want to attack, especially with counter, as medel is a destroyer himself. Bu i hope when we attack, medel switches to defend, giving other mf to shoot or find their position higher inside the opponent’ defense, because yeah his shoot is another guaro level two..lol. just imo though
In defending aspect he seemed more succesfull than usual but big part of the role he had today is attacking, he was in the opposition box bunch of time, lot of times the ball was going to him and he just couldn’t handle that. I’m not suprised, he never played that far up the pitch and just isn’t skilfull goalscorer, he will miss a lot of chances because of that. If we had someone who is just to attacking in that position we would have scored that one goal that was needed.
This is not critisism of Medel, he did the best he could but that just isn’t the role that suits him, it was De Boer’s fault that he used him in that role and didn’t subsitute him later when he was tired and was obvious that he can’t score. But De Boer also has to get praise for our play today, besides result it was a good game for us. But the result is the most important thing for us and two points lost at home against Palermo will hurt us. We just can’t afford to lose any points at Meazza.
This is why it was so important to get a player like Joao Mario (or Cesc…). Imagine him having those chances today instead of Medel.
We played much better this time. I held my head in disbelief so many times as the ball just refused to go in. I’m sure the wins will come, we just have to suffer as we always do. K Dog and Banega were such beasts tonight, I can’t wait to see Mario instead of Medel and Candreva in form as a starter instead of Eder.
OK,Kondogbia played a solid game(running, helping in defense) but he lost too many easy balls imo
and his pass was poor to be honest.. but everybody still not in 100% condition yet.. we need to wait untill next game to see hopefully even better inter..
His pass and distance shoot are poor
Was Kondogbia good tonight? Unfortunately I couldn’t watch it but all I’m hearing is that he was poor
K-Dog was good individually but got so many wrong passes for a MF
