Inter coach Stefano Pioli spoke to media outlets in his post-match press conference after Inter crashed to a 3-1 defeat at home to Roma.
“The match was complicated because we were up against strong opposition. I’m sorry because we didn’t concede that many goal-scoring chances to them, we controlled their attackers very well. They were much more efficient because we also had clear-cut chances. I’m disappointed, especially for their first goal.”
“The team had approached the game well, but they have suffered because tonight’s opponents were good. We reacted, but they were more effective than us.”
The Inter coach also spoke about his side’s lack of luck in front of goal.
“We played today with three players behind Icardi, the positions of the players on the pitch don’t matter. They were simply better than us from this aspect. These things make the difference.”
Despite the poor performance, Pioli backed his side to come back stronger.
“This is the moment for us to demonstrate what kind of team we are. It’s easy to be enthusiastic when the results go your way, but now we have to demonstrate that we believe in what we’re doing even after a bad defeat. We’ve always been good at picking ourselves up and bouncing back before.”
Pioli then discussed the penalty controversy that was mentioned by Luciano Spalletti.
“I have only answered your questions claiming that everything evens out at the end of the season. Then I only said that there’s a numerical difference between the penalties we’ve been awarded and the one’s Roma have been awarded, but that’s just a statistic. My players have to only think about giving all they have, and maybe do better than they did today. We’re not looking for excuses.”
When asked about whether tonight’s defeat suggests that Inter are perhaps not ready for the Champions League, Pioli said: “The defeats against Roma, Juventus and Napoli say that, for various reasons, we lacked a little something.”
Lastly, the tactician spoke of Medel’s performance in the heart of the Inter defence. “He’s charismatic, his lack of height wasn’t a problem against good attackers, he still gets all the balls with his head.”

Players positioning doesnt matter? Are you serious? Of course it does… injust dont understand why Pioli decides to experiment a new formation in such an important game and never realize his mistake (even after we were losing) we hace dominated matches and win matches with the 4231 and for some reason he wants to change it and places the players in positions they never play (perisic, brozovic, d’ambrosio) like come on, yiu have a good thing going with the 4231 playing at home why try stupid stuff. We lacked creativity and deprh in attacking. It was like watching us play under de boer
We lost the game against Roma, it’s true. But I don’t want the fans to lose hope. We still have the chance to qualify for the UCL. Next week Roma will be against Napoli where before the match they will also participate in the coppa Italia against Lazio and Juventus respectively. We are three points behind Napoli, but let’s take a closer look. I am sure Roma will defeat them next week because after that they will have to play against Real Madrid and at the same time next week, we will have to beat Cagliari. The gap is now three. After the game against Cagliari, there will be Atalanta which have surpassed our position along with Lazio by three points. When we defeat Atalanta, we will be back to the competition for the third spot. At the end of April, at home we will meet Napoli. All we need to do is to keep believing in our Inter and all the players must be confident that we do still have the chance. Third spot is still possible and realistic.
we are 5 points behind napoli…
6 points dude
it is not over until it is May. So Inter is still in it. Miranda would have made a difference and also Mr should have started Andreoli instead of Dambrosio
It’s over now, the season is over for us… We are not in CL next year = No revenue, no star players, no stadium… next year we will = sell the prospects and buy the wrong guy again, sack the coach either at the beginning or in the middle of the season, start year ZERO shits all over again, fans cursing the players, the players fight the fans again, lost in EL again, 4 – 7 spots all over the year…sigh
Wow. You throw the team under the bus at the first sign of trouble. Perhaps your should start “supporting” another team now. Just a few months ago we didn’t even dream that we’d have a shot at fighting for UCL spot. We lost against the best team in Italy at the moment. Chill
Nah, i’m sticking with this team bro, thank you for the advise but no
The season ends in May. So let’s be optimistic
You forgot global warming ,the tsunami and the high possibility that San Siro will be destroyed by an earthquake next year.
Must be fun to root for a team,or anything for that matter, with your mentality.
Your life must be full of joy.
You will see my friend, at the end of the season and next year. I hope i’m wrong, but with this players mentality i can’t see this Inter will get the 3rd spot in near future.
lol at Pioli defending his bullshit tactic that obviously didnt work by saying “the position of the players on the pitch dont matter” and blaming bad luck.
Its like hearing Mancini all over again.
What a fucking dumbass.
“He’s charismatic, his lack of height wasn’t a problem against good attackers, he still gets all the balls with his head.”
Not with this feet yesterday though…
you know, why we lose!? because thohir came to the stadium.. i told you, everytime he came, we will play like shit.. LOL.. okay, it’s a joke.. we’re simply not good enought yet..
we cant aim for top 3 if we cant beat the team in top 3…
so, goodbye UCL?
Can just hope for 4th place again this season since the top 3 seem to be way better than us
