PremiumSport report that Dries Mertens could leave Napoli with his contract demands unlikely to be met. They report that Inter have called the Belgian and offered him a 5 year deal worth 3 million a season and will either sign him this summer or wait til next summer when his contract runs out.

Just NO !!!
Rumours like this got me wondering: Where is Inter on Barney Stinson’s Crazy / Hot scale? Must be pretty much in the crazy zone, but to hot to drop 😀
Mertens is not exactly the..”young Italian ” profile..but outstanding player nevertheless.
Guys:
98% of what sport papers write right now is complete b.s..
There was an inter fans site that, around 10 years ago, actually kept track of all the names we got linked to by the media ,for just one summer season, and the Final Grand Total was something like:
187 players.
Of which ..we actually got.. 2.
Because the other 3 we actually bought that summer the media did not know and never mentioned them before their contract was actually signed!!
That gives you a good picture..
I think there are 2 or 3 that are real and seriously possible right now ,with offers made, details being looked into etc.
.From all I am hearing:
Rodriguez(the left back from Wolfsburg).and Berardi.
Possibly now even De Vrij ,but only at the beginning stage.
The rest is just a matter of the 4 or 5 Inter full time observers bringing in the info about the 100 players a week they observe..
That’s all they do,it’s their full time job.
So true, there are agents working both for players and clubs and even people working for these same agents who´s job it is to contract the agent´s of some players to hear what he would like in salary if he were to join – doesn’t mean the player will join though.
I have a squad on SoFIFA with all current Inter players and transfer rumors from the past year and it totals 167 so far, and I’m sure I’ve missed a few!
As a winger, Mertens made tons of goals. Very impressive stats despite his age.
However, it all depends om how much Napoli asks for his signature. If above 25 million euros, that would be a big gamble though since we already have 30 million euros Gabigone at disposal. But if we managed to get his signature for less than 15 million euros, I would be happy to replace Candreva with Mertens any day.
I think that’s crazy, he will be 30 in a few months and giving him a contract until he is 35 with a large salary is just bonkers. Under those terms, no thanks.
we have done crazier things like with melo
Not we, Mancini. He wanted to play a double pivot of Melo, Medel… Don;t forget the FB from Turkey who never even started the season. I suspect part of his row with the new owners was because he wanted more/full control over the transfer policy. No, thanks!
well he recommends players and he clubs signs them
was mancio taking the % from players he had chosen?
are we ever going to be able to discover it?
And Napoli will not wait for hi contract to expire, they’ll rather ship him to the EPL. I see no space for him at Inter besides a backup for Icardi if he gets injured. Icardi doesn’t like to be subbed during the game and he’s the captain so Martens would be getting very limited playing time. Bottomline BONKERS!
AFAIK Mertens post is more toward Left Wing Forward (although he has been playing in Striker post too sometimes), so he will most likely be the substitute for Perisic.
Eder will be subs for Icardi, and we release Palacio. Candreva and Gabigol keeps the competition for the right wing. Because we need rotation to cover between Serie A and European competition next season (hopefully).
Though I do agree that Mertens isn’t quite worth it now with his age. There are many other options out there.
