Sky Sport commentator and former Inter player Daniele Adani gave his views on Jorge Sampaoli’s choice of playing Boca Juniors striker Dario Benedetto ahead of Inter’s captain Mauro Icardi in yesterday’s goalless draw between Argentina and Peru: “(Dario) Benedetto was disappointing, (Mauro) Icardi or (Paulo) Dybala should have been brought on as one of the substitutes. Also we need to know what happened to Angel Di Maria, was his substitution a technical choice or was he hurt? Argentina are not playing well, they depend a lot on Lionel Messi.”
Argentina are on the verge of not qualifying for the FIFA World Cup finals in Russia next summer for the first time since the FIFA World Cup 1970 in Mexico, and they face a crucial match away against Ecuador on Tuesday where they’re forced to win.
