Argentina struggled during a World Cup that see them knocked out at the first knockout stage against eventual winners France. The problems on and off the pitch were there for all to see. In form Inter captain Mauro Icardi wasn’t even called up to the squad. Stars on the pitch such Messi, Higuain & Aguero were not performing. Add to that the circus that surrounded coach Jorge Sampaoli.
Now it seems that the Argentina Football Association wants to rebuild the image of it’s national side and in the aftermath of the sacking of coach Sampaoli they are no rush to appoint a successor, giving themselves time to appoint the right person. In the meantime they will look to part time management in the shape of former players Pablo Aimar and Lionel Scaloni who are current under 21 coaches. The names on their wish list remain Diego Simeone and Mauricio Pochettino.
With regards to players the Argentina Football Association is also looking to make changes and freshen up a group that has failed in recent years to achieve its potential. Two players that seem to be the ones they are looking to are the new Inter strike partnership of Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez. It is thought that for their up coming friendlies in September that they will look for a more evergreen and youthful approach with the Inter pair heading up the attack.
