Inter Winger Politano: “Relieved To Have Scored, Let’s Hope It’s The First Of Many”

Matteo Politano described his first goal for Inter as ‘a liberation’ but admits he still has vast room for improvement following the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 win over Cagliari.

The Italian found the net with one minute of normal time remaining to rubber-stamp a fourth straight win in all competitions for Luciano Spalletti’s side, who have now moved up to fourth in the Serie A table, but told Inter TV after the match that he wasn’t entirely satisfied with his performance.

“It’s a great relief [to have scored],” he said, “but I still need to improve a lot. I’m [only] half-happy with my performance tonight because I made a lot of mistakes in the second half.

“It was important to build on our last few results and we did that very well. Now we need to focus on PSV; it won’t be easy but we’ll be going there to win.

“We have to approach every match like we approached tonight’s match, we know we’re a great team. We’re a more close-knit team now and that’s the result of all the work we’ve been doing during the week.

“I’d like to dedicate my goal tonight to my wife and my family – let’s hope it’s the first of many.”
