Former Inter Defender Paganin Expects Icardi Renewal

Former Inter defender Antonio Paganin is confident Mauro Icardi’s love for Inter will ensure he signs a new deal soon.

Icardi has yet to extend his contract with the club after weeks of public tension between Inter and wife and agent Wanda Nara.

The parties have not yet scheduled a meeting to resume negotiations with reports the forward wants €2-3 million more than Inter are currently offering.

However Paganin, who won two UEFA Cups with the Nerazurri in the 1990s, has no doubt Icardi will eventually put pen to paper on a new deal.

“From what I know Icardi is very happy at Inter,” Paganin told Radio Sportiva.

“There have never been any signs of him falling out with the club. He wants to stay and build something special here.

“I get the impression that in the end an agreement will be reached.”

Paganin also spoke of Inter’s prospects heading into the second half of the season, which begins with the match at home to Sassuolo this evening.

“The last few weeks before Christmas told us Inter can compete with Napoli for second place,” he assured.

“First place is a long way off for everyone though because Juventus have an extra gear compared to the rest.”
