Spalletti Unlikely To Remain At Inter Next Season

Luciano Spalletti is unlikely to remain Inter head coach beyond the end of the current season, Corriere dello Sport reported on Saturday.

Spalletti held a dressing room meeting with the club’s management following Thursday’s Coppa Italia elimination on penalties against Lazio, which extended Inter’s winless run in all competitions to three matches.

President Steven Zhang, chief executive Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio were among those present and asked him to explain the reasons behind the Nerazzurri’s sudden dip in form, which has seen Inter score just once in their last 300 minutes of football.

Spalletti was also asked why several individuals have fallen out of form in recent weeks, with the paper naming Lautaro Martinez, Radja Nainggolan and Roberto Gagliardini as central to the discussion.

The meeting was cordial with no accusations launched from either side and served to reiterate the club’s faith in the former Roma boss, whose job is not currently under threat.

However the club will continue to monitor the situation closely and expect a reaction in tomorrow’s match at home to Bologna, which Zhang will not attend after flying home to celebrate Chinese New Year.

In any case, it is reported that Spalletti is unlikely to be Inter’s head coach at the start of next season.
