Inter Manager Spalletti: “We Were Intimidated & Created Problems For Ourselves”

Inter manager Luciano Spalletti spoke with Sky Sport Italia following Inter’s 1-0 loss to Bologna on home soil, a result that extended their poor run of form in the league.

“A couple of things have bothered me quite clearly but we will see the rest in the analysis of the game tomorrow. We were intimidated and we created problems for ourselves when there were no prerequisites. When the level of insecurity is then raised and you miss a chance, the other team manages to score and everything becomes more difficulty.

“If you do not have a strong character, and maybe from this point of view we do not have the best, I thought we could still maintain a fairly normal course of action and be capable of finding a basis to build on. Instead every so often you lose the ability to play simple. As in the end, you can’t move the ball around so it’s enough to lift it for Ranocchia.”

Asked if he believes the team are following his instructions he explained: “I think so, we do pretty simple things. We also need that episode that can maybe give us an advantage and then keep a proper balance on the pitch and make it difficult for the opposition. The team follow me but when struggling there is something missing; the other team fights stronger than us.”

Spalletti was then asked if he was bothered by the jeers when his name was read out over the tannoy before the game.

“It has happened already during my career. When you pay for a ticket, it is fair to think you deserve something different, especially if the team you have paid to watch is called Inter.”

He concluded the interview by revealing the reasoning behind bringing Andrea Ranocchia on at the end.

“We tried to get the ball in the box late on and I wanted to make the most of his aerial capabilities. He did manage to knock a few down, but there weren’t enough other bodies in the box
