Before the Serie A match between Inter and Bologna at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district, both clubs paid tribute to the memory of former coach Arpad Weisz.
The Hungarian tactician led both Inter and Bologna during his career before he was captured and sent to Auschwitz where he was murdered by the Nazi’s.
Weisz is the youngest manager to ever win the Serie A when he at the age of 34 led Inter to the Scudetto in the 1929/1930 season. He also led Bologna to two consecutive Scudetti in 1935/36 and 1936-37 seasons as well as to a win in the predecessor of the Champions League when defeating Chelsea 4-1.
Inter’s Alessandro Antonello, Beppe Marotta as well as Bologna’s CEO Claudio Fenucci were present to commemorate the life of Weisz with the number 18 which in Hebrew symbolizes life.
