Inter Coach Spalletti Continues To Rely On Lautaro Martinez During Icardi’s Absence

Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport underlines today, the great responsibility that Lautaro Martinez now has at Inter, given that Spalletti, between injuries and other issues only has Martinez as a recognized striker in the squad.

At only 21 years old and in his first season in Europe and especially at an important club like the Nerazzurri, it would be unfair to ask him to provide the same numbers of goals as Icardi.

However, Lautaro has certainly proved to know how to play for the team, maybe even creating something different than Icardi, if not scoring the same quantity of goals. For example, against Sampdoria, he was opening spaces and going to battle against every opposite player. It is not surprising then that Spalletti described him as a tank.

Lautaro has still managed to score seven goals and provide one assist in 23 appearances this season so far and a few of his goals have earned important points for the team such as the winners against Napoli, Parma and Rapid Vienna.
