La Repubblica have looked at what could happen if the two Milanese clubs were to decide to stay and renovate San Siro over building a new stadium.
“If the Meazza were restructured, Milan and Inter could emigrate from Milan for at least three seasons, for the entire duration of the work. This is the new, sensational hypothesis for the San Siro issue,” the report reads.
“It would be the second-best solution if, at the end of the ongoing evaluation, it was decided that the current stadium should not be torn down but restructured. According to financial analysis, the main reason to restructuring would be economic.
“The clubs would spend around €400 million while moreover the capacity would be more or less halved to 40,000-45,000, but above all, while the construction of a new stadium is estimated at two years, the restoration and modernisation of the Meazza would take much longer.”
The report then goes on to discuss potential locations that the clubs could potentially relocate to.
“Milan has already studied the possible venues. Given the large number of fans who live in and around Milan, one cannot go beyond a certain radius. There is the stadium in Varese (properly restored and expanded), Verona, Parma and even Turin (the Grande Torino plus the Juventus Stadium).”
