Inter Look To Emerson & Darmian To Reinforce Full-Back Options

Inter have identified Emerson Palmieri and Matteo Darmian as their two primary targets in the full-back position this summer, Gazzetta dello Sport reported today.

The Nerazzurri are unlikely to exercise their option to buy for Southampton loanee Cedric Soares while Dalbert could also depart, creating the necessity to bring in reinforcements on both sides of defence.

Darmian, 29, was closely linked with a move to Inter last summer and is known to be popular with both Piero Ausilio and Beppe Marotta, who would be able to sign him for €12 million as the Italian enters the final year of his contract at Manchester United.

Emerson, 24, has begun to find more game time with Chelsea in recent weeks and would cost more than Darmian, but he too would be open to returning to Italy if the Nerazzurri made a satisfactory offer.

“Emerson is happy in London and hasn’t fallen out with anyone at Chelsea, but it’s clear that if he didn’t play regularly next season he would jeopardise his chances of making the Italy squad for Euro 2020,” Gazzetta said.

Danilo D’Ambrosio is expected to remain at Inter for next season and could sign a new deal in the coming months.
