Inter midfielder Matias Vecino picked up a muscular injury during Uruguay’s 4-0 win over Ecuador in the Copa America last night, according to the Celeste’s head coach Oscar Tabarez.
Vecino played 83 minutes of the Group C fixture in Belo Horizonte, which saw Uruguay begin their tournament with a comfortable win, before being replaced by Federico Valverde.
Tabarez spoke to Fox Sports Argentina at full-time and mentioned the 27-year-old’s injury while discussing the match.
“We’ll find out how serious it is tomorrow,” he was reported as saying.
Vecino made 40 appearances in all competitions for Inter during the 2018-19 season, scoring five goals and creating five assists.
The midfielder’s finest moment of the campaign came during the 2-1 win over Tottenham in the Champions League group stage, securing an unlikely come-from-behind victory with a stoppage-time header.
Last night’s display was Vecino’s 34th appearance for Uruguay, during which time he has scored three goals for his country.
