Inter Legend Materazzi: “Conte Will Be Eager To Beat Former Club Juventus”

Inter will benefit from Antonio Conte’s desire to get one over on his former club Juventus next season, according to the Nerazzurri’s former defender Marco Materazzi.

Conte will begin preseason training with his new club on 8 July and is determined to challenge the Bianconeri for the Serie A title.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Materazzi urged the former Chelsea and Italy boss to give Inter’s supporters the results their affection deserved.

“It’s time for a change after eight consecutive titles for Juventus,” the 2006 World Cup winner said.

“Conte will be determined to beat his past and the club needs to be ambitious. The atmosphere at San Siro is incredible and Inter need to carry those fans towards an important result.”

Materazzi also had words of warning for Conte, though, reminding the Italian he will have work to do if he wants to win over his new supporters.

“Antonio needs to make himself loved by Inter fans after being hated for his past,” he added.

“He’s got the tools to do it because he has a very solid club behind him and a great group of players.

“Wherever he’s gone he’s got the best out of who works for his club. He’s similar to Jose Mourinho in that respect.”
