Inter have paused their pursuits for Nicolo Barella and Edin Dzeko so they can fully concentrate on signing Romelu Lukaku, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Nerazzurri want to sign the Belgian as soon as possible and are willing to offer Manchester United up to €70 million.
Antonio Conte has picked Lukaku as his first choice up front while the player has agreed personal terms with Inter.
Barella and Dzeko seemed close to joining in recent weeks but they must now wait to find out if they will arrive at San Siro.
Inter’s management are working to reduce the gap between their offer for Lukaku and United’s asking price, which the paper did not specify but is thought to be around €80 million.
Further developments could occur today with Lukaku’s agent Federico Pastorello due to visit the club’s offices, although he will arrive to conclude a deal for Valentino Lazaro after mediating in negotiations with Hertha Berlin.
Roma have overtaken Inter in the race to sign Barella after the Giallorossi offered €35 million in cash and striker Gregoire Defrel.
Beppe Marotta does not intend to get involved in a bidding war and has cut off all contact with Roma, meaning talks for Dzeko have been put on hold.
Barella is on holiday at present but Cagliari owner Tommaso Giulini could speak to the capital club at the Lega Calcio’s headquarters today.
Inter could lose out on the midfielder but for now all their attention is on Lukaku.
