In a quick-fire interview on the side of an event, former Inter owner and president Massimo Moratti shared his views on several Inter related topics, starting with Inter’s interest in Nicolo Barella.
“He is one of the most promising youngsters in Italian football. He has a lot of determination and technique and even Stefano Sensi can be of value to Inter but it takes a lot to wear the Nerazzurri shirt,” he is quoted as saying by both Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport.
He then gave his opinion on Inter striker Lautaro Martinez.
“He is a nice dribbler and can score goals. He is a precious element of the team, he is a second striker.”
Then the current situation surrounding the Milan clubs’ future at San Siro.
“I am too fond of San Siro to imagine Inter playing in another stadium.”
Moratti, who spent nearly 20 years in charge at Inter, then reflected on Luciano Spalletti’s tenure at the club.
“Sometimes to achieve great results you need a bit of luck that Spalletti didn’t have but he brought Inter in the Champions League.”
He then spoke on his biggest regret from his time in charge at the club.
“My biggest regret was not signing Eric Cantona. I wanted to take him because I was convinced that he would win everything and that he would make us win.
“We signed Paul Ince on purpose. We were also close to Cristiano Ronaldo, but at that time we had so many great players and it is not possible to sign them all. Sometimes you don’t want to exaggerate because then maybe you throw away good players like, maybe, what is happening at Inter right now.”
He concluded by speaking on his biggest mistakes.
“Letting Andrea Pirlo go.”
