Reports in the Spanish media this afternoon sensationally claimed Inter had agreed a deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United.
Madrid-based sports newspaper AS said the Nerazzurri would sign the Belgian for €80 million plus bonuses, having decided to meet the Red Devils’ asking price.
They also suggested the deal could become official by the start of next week, with Inter having already informed the player they are prepared to invest in him.
No such news has been reported in the Italian media, however, making it difficult to believe a deal is in place.
Piero Ausilio met United officials in London last week and was told Inter would have to pay more than the £79 million the Red Devils spent for Lukaku in 2017, according to Sky Sports News.
Inter are widely expected to increase their offer in the coming days, but no other outlets are suggesting the clubs have already reached an agreement.
Talks remain difficult but Antonio Conte will be hoping there is at least some degree of truth in today’s developments from the Spanish capital.
