Corriere dello Sport have reviewed Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta’s 10 months at Inter as chief executive and how they have went so far.
Suning have pretty much given him carte blance to do what he felt he needed to do, well almost as Alessandro Antonello, the club’s other CEO, deals with all the corporate side of thinks such as a the stadium, revenues and finances but anything relating to the team and on-pitch performance is down to Marotta.
There is a great deal of trust in the relationship between Marotta and Suning and this allowed him to direct the choice of the new manager and that is why he sacked Luciano Spalletti and went all out to bring in Antonio Conte. The early results show that Marotta has made the right decision.
Marotta also played a part in Gabriele ‘Lele’ Oriali returning to be like Conte’s right hand man and has developed a good relationship with sporting director Piero Ausilio – who is set to sign a new contract until 2022, something that could be announced at the shareholders meeting.
As for the team, Marotta handled the tricky situations of Mauro Icardi and Radja Nainggolan as best he could and also shipped Ivan Perisic out. He moved them all on with a view to ‘cleaning up the dressing room’ and made several additions to the team, including the club record transfer of Romelu Lukaku. So far every signing has proven their worth, other than Valentino Lazaro who has not had much chance to impress.
