In today’s paper edition of Corriere della Sera, Giancarlo Tancredi, the urban planning director for the city of Milan, has penned a column concerning the possible renovation of San Siro.
Inter and AC Milan have revealed plans to build a new stadium but it remains to be seen what will happen to the historic San Siro.
“It has emerged that the theme of the maintenance and or re-conversion of the current stadium is to be explored and developed,” he began his column.
“The maintenance of the stadium could allow for a huge saving in terms of avoiding demolition and contribute to the containment of soil consumption for the settlement of urban functions.
“The historical value of the stadium is not yet recognised and no type of constraint is applied. On the contrary, the ministry recognises the value of San Siro. It could get to the point where Inter and AC Milan will have to make a decision, two stadiums in San Siro or move to Sesto.”
