Referee Makkelie Done Well In Inter’s 3-2 Loss To Dortmund

In today’s print edition, Milanese newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have reviewed the performance of referee Danny Makkelie in Inter’s 3-2 loss away to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last night.

Makkelie was correct to award Inter wing back Cristiano Biraghi with a yellow card after the Italian, who arrived at Inter during the Summer, had his foot high up in the air as he went for the ball and subsequently connected with Achraf Hakimi.

The Dutchman was correct not to punish Manuel Akanji in the build-up to Lautaro Martinez’s opening goal of the game. Akanji did touch the Argentine but not enough to warrant a booking.

Moreover, he was once again correct not to brandish a card after Nico Schulz fell on Matteo Politano. Schulz landed on Politano’s ankle completely accidentally and therefore not only was it not yellow card worthy but it was not foul worthy either.

The report concludes by praising him for getting the yellow cards he handed to Milan Skriniar, Antonio Candreva and Thorgan Hazard correct.
