Mertens Remains On Inter’s Radar Despite Looming Contract Renewal With Napoli

Dries Mertens remains on Inter’s radar despite the fact he is seemingly close to signing a contract extension with Napoli according to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb.

Inter are long term admirers of the Belgian international whose deal with the Azzurri club is due to expire at the end of the season thus meaning he could be signed on a free transfer if he does not sign a new deal with Napoli.

Mertens has been with the Stadio San Paolo club since a 2013 move from PSV Eindhoven and is currently just one goal away from becoming the outright all time top goal scorer at the club. He is currently joint top goalscorer alongside Marek Hamsik having scored 121 goals.

This season the 32-year-old has made 29 appearances across all competitions. In little under 1800 minutes on the field, the former Anderlecht academy player has scored 12 goals and has also provided six assists for his teammates.
