Inter are seriously interested in signing Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, who impressed this season on loan with Roma, according to a report from English tabloid the Express earlier today.
The report details how the Nerazzurri want to sign yet another Manchester United player this season, after Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez, with Smalling being the target. The 30-year-old English defender would like to return to Serie A after an impressive season on loan with Roma. Talks between the Giallorossi and the Red Devils have hit a stalemate as the Roman side don’t want to pay over €15 million.
Inter coach Antonio Conte was impressed with Smalling’s season and the way he adapted to a three-man defense, the report continues. For this reason, he wants to bring the Englishman to Milan. The Red Devils want €25 million for the player, a fee Inter are seemingly willing to pay. Smalling would also be willing to take a pay cut to return to Italy.
