Ex-Inter President Massimo Moratti: “Antonio Conte Should Stay, Inter Are Ready To Start Winning Again”

Former Inter president and owner Massimo Moratti has revealed what he thinks Inter were missing in both the Serie A and Europa League, both of which Inter came ever so close to winning.

“Serie A was within reach, with the Nerazzurri losing some precious points, but let’s be honest. in the end, Juventus had already given up,” he explained in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Punto Nuovo, a short while ago.

“Winning remains a very difficult thing to do, especially when it comes to putting all the right pieces together. This year the team’s set-up will need to be improved a little, adding some quality players, especially in midfield. It was also Conte’s first year and it wasn’t easy.

He then spoke on Inter manager Antonio Conte’s future which is right up in the air due to his many public outbursts during the recently concluded 2019/20 season.

“The lack of harmony between the coach and the Inter environment? This may have affected Inter’s season a bit, especially in terms of the points Inter missed out on.

“Conte’s future? It is not easy to answer. It is to be hoped that it will remain, because we must give continuity to the good results seen this year. Then, there should be no further moments of doubt, otherwise next season would be problematic. I believe that Zhang is compelled to keep him even for economic reasons. Conte should stay, but let’s see.”

Next Moratti was asked what he would do if he were in the shoes of current Inter president Steven Zhang to which he simply responded: “What would I have done in Zhang’s place? I’ve changed a lot of coaches…”

He then proceeded to discuss the relationship that he holds with Zhang, who is in fact the youngest Inter president in the club’s history.

“We talk often, we have also spoken in the last few hours. I really don’t know what advice to give him. For me, Inter and the club are ready to start winning again. Being back in the Europa League final is already something that gives great confidence for next year.”

In conclusion Moratti addressed the ongoing media speculation linking Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi with a potential switch to Inter.

“Zhang is very kind in telling me so many things, but he always does it with discretion. This year would be the right year to get Messi, but the figures of the deal would be so impressive that it would take a lot of thought. It is a dream that I know that all of the Nerazzurri have in common.”
