Lionel Messi’s father Jorge Messi is in talks with Manchester City over his son according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
In the past few days, Messi told Barcelona via fax that he wishes to leave the club, a decision which has rocked the footballing world.
Messi has no intention of backing down and is ready to leave Barcelona, where he has spent the entirety of his career to date.
Whilst Messi senior is in negotiations with Manchester City, he is refusing to close the door on either Paris Saint-Germain or Inter, both of whom have also been strongly linked and the report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to explain that Messi’s future will largely depend on the clause in his contract which allows him to unilateraly terminate his contract.
The dispute is likely to end up in the Catalan Labour Court and it could be the case that Messi manages to free himself from Barcelona now and whoever then signs him will be forced to pay a penalty fee once the dispute is settled in court.
