A report from Italian media outlet Calcioefinanza.it yesterday detailed how much Inter will save from letting Spanish midfielder Borja Valero leave, rather than offering him a new contract.
The report details how the 35-year-old Spaniard struggled to impress coach Antonio Conte this season and found limited playing time, until the restart of the season after the Coronavirus stop. Valero became an important player for the 51-year-old Italian coach, so much so that rumours began suggesting that the Nerazzurri would offer him a one-year contract extension.
Instead, Valero left on a free transfer after his contract expired, the report continues. The player earnt €2.5 million net per season, equivalent to €4.375 million gross. Including the amortization, Valero cost Inter a little over €6.5 million this season, a figure that no longer needs to be paid. The Spaniard made 100 appearances for the Nerazzurri in his three years at the club, scoring five goals, three last season under Conte.
