Lionel Messi will likely see out the remainder of his contract with Barcelona and leave on a free at the end of the upcoming season according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
From January 1 2021 Messi will be free to negotiate a contract with the club of his choosing on a pre-contract basis and there are a number of options on the table for him.
The most obvious option at the moment is joining former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola at Manchester City in the Premier League.
Should Joan Laporta be re-elected as Barcelona president in place of Josep Maria Bartomeu, he could possibly convince Messi into signing a contract extension with the Blaugrana.
The report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to state that another option for Messi is a move to Italy to Inter. Inter would need to convince Messi about Suning’s plans for the club and make it attractive to him and make it clear that the club is ready to win.
