Inter President Steven Zhang Told Directors To Lower Club’s Wage Bill Before Signing Arturo Vidal

The imminent departure of Diego Godin from Inter to Cagliari will unblock negotiations for Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset earlier today.

The report details how an agreement was reached yesterday night between the 34-year-old Uruguayan defender and Inter regarding his departure from the club and the termination of the contract, allowing the player to move to Cagliari.

The Rossoblu are prepared to announce Godin on Monday, giving him the number 2 shirt.

The departure of Godin has unblocked the Vidal situation, the report continues, as club president Steven Zhang wanted to lower the club’s current wage bill before signing the 33-year-old Chilean midfielder.

Barcelona’s Luis Suarez is also a possibility, but it is fairly unlikely considering the player’s high wage demands and injury risks.

Godin made 36 appearances across all competitions last season for the Nerazzurri, for a total of 2800 minutes.

In that time, he scored twice, provided one assist and helped the side keep 13 clean sheets.
