Inter have announced that wing-back Achraf Hakimi has tested positive for COVID-19 just hours before their Champions League group stage opener at home to Borussia Monchengladbach.
In an official statement posted on the club website, Inter have confirmed that the Moroccan international has tested positive during UEFA’s check as part of the protocol for matches.
The club have stated that Hakimi, who joined the club in the most recent Summer transfer window, is currently totally asymptomatic and will now follow the relevant procedures.
Hakimi is now the seventh Inter player to have tested positive for COVID-19 following Alessandro Bastoni, Milan Skriniar, Radja Nainggolan, Ashley Young, Ionut Andrei Radu and Roberto Gagliardini. Bastoni, Nainggolan and Gagliardini have all now recovered.
Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia have reported that with Hakimi to miss tonight’s encounter against the Bundesliga club, Inter manager Antonio Conte is thinking about handing another of the Summer transfer window recruits in Matteo Darmian his debut for the Nerazzurri.
