Nerazzurri Legend Beppe Bergomi: “Inter Tried & Failed With An Attacking Midfielder & But Didn’t Have Papu Gomez”

Legendary Inter central defender and former club captain Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has shared his belief that there are multiple clubs in the running to win the Serie A title this season.

As things currently stand, AC Milan are leading the way in Serie A after 13 games played with 31 points to their name. Inter are directly behind them with 30 points whilst Juventus are four points off of top spot.

“For the Scudetto I always say AC Milan, Inter, Juve and Napoli. I won’t leave Napoli out because even the Azzurri can have a string of victories like Inter have had for the past six matches,” he explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, during their Sky Calcio Club show.

Bergomi then went on to discuss the tactical changes that Inter have made throughout this season and also expressed his views on Inter’s performance in their 2-1 win over Spezia this past weekend.

“From the match against Sassuolo, Inter returned to playing in a 3-5-2 system. Inter tried playing with an attacking midfielder then put the idea aside.

“At the beginning of the season Inter tried to play with high pressure with the attacking midfielder, but they suffered a lot, even if they won some matches.

“Inter did not always attack Spezia, they didn’t play a great match, but when they made the right moves with the ball, they scored.

In conclusion Bergomi, who spent the entirety of his playing career with Inter, spoke on the recent speculation linking Inter with a move for Atalanta’s Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez, who appears destined to leave the Bergamo based club in next month’s January transfer window.

“Inter tried to play with the attacking midfielder and failed but certainly they did not have a player like Papu, who beats his man and has physical strength.”
