Italian Media Praise Referee Piero Giacomelli For Performance In Inter’s Win Over Hellas Verona

In today’s print edition, Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have sang the praises of referee Piero Giacomelli for his performance as referee in Hellas Verona versus Inter last night.

Inter came away from the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi with all three points as they won their seventh straight game in Serie A with goals from Lautaro Martinez and Milan Skriniar helping them to a 2-1 win against Ivan Juric’s Gialloblu.

As per this report, Giacomelli was correct not to award Inter with a penalty when Romelu Lukaku had his shirt pulled and he went to ground in the Hellas Verona box on the 74th minute.

Whilst there was a pull of the Belgian’ shirt, it was not big, unlike Lukaku’s collapse to the floor.

Lukaku had the ball in the net in the final seconds of the game but it was chopped off and Giacomelli was right to do so. The reason for the goal being cancelled was because of a clear foul on Hellas Verona’s Giangiacomo Magnani.
