Inter & Lautaro Martinez Have Agreed Contract Extension Removing Buyout Clause, Italian Media Reports

Inter have reached an agreement with Lautaro Martinez over a contract renewal, with the striker also willing to remove his buyout clause from the deal.

The 23-year-old has been in lengthy negotiations with the club over extending his contract, due to expire in June 2023, and a breakthrough has been made, according to today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Martinez’s agents, Beto Yaque and Rolando Zarate, met with Inter officials over the past week to thrash out a new deal and the Argentine is set to reduce his initial wage demands of €7.5 million per season to Inter’s offer of €4.5m.

This would be a significant increase on Martinez’s existing terms, currently set at €2.5m following his arrival from Racing Club in 2018.

Crucially, he is also willing to remove a buyout clause in his new contract, set at €111m and valid in the transfer window until July 10 of each season.

The clause has prompted interest from Barcelona in the past but Martinez is now willing to forego this and sign a new contract without any such agreement in place.
