Inter owners Suning are on course to become the first foreign owners to oversee a Serie A title, but their ambitions stretch to success in the Champions League.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, no other club has won the Scudetto whilst under foreign ownership, whilst Suning are set to become the first Chinese owners to lift a title in any of Europe’s major leagues.
The newspaper highlights President Steven Zhang’s speech at the club’s Christmas party in 2018, in which he outlined his desire to make the Nerazzurri a force in Italy again, whilst their decision to appoint coach Antonio Conte was done with a view to achieve success as quickly as possible.
Suning had previously shown their ability to build a title-winning team with Jiangsu Suning in China, but attention and focus has been turned to Inter and the Zhang family are determined to build a legacy in Milan.
Indeed, the newspaper suggests that Suning are looking to emulate the ownership models at Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain by building on league titles to enjoy periods of dominance.
Having ended Juventus’ cycle of nine consecutive league titles in Serie A, the focus now is on winning the Champions League.
