Having declared their intention to withdraw from the breakaway Super League last week, administrative factors may see Inter avoid any sanctions for pulling out.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Repubblica, the 12 clubs that joined the project may be liable for financial penalties after breaking the agreement to form the new league.
However, the newspaper suggests that Inter never formally completed the process of joining up in the first place as they did not have official approval from creditors and stakeholders, a necessary condition for becoming a member.
Instead, the Nerazzurri merely signalled their intention to join and becoming a founding member, allowing for them to withdraw with greater ease last week. Similarly, Barcelona took a similar path after insisting that they would not be formal founders until their members had voted on it.
Whilst it remains to be seen if financial sanctions will be imposed on the clubs after breaching any contracts, Inter may yet be able to avoid such penalties.
