Jose Mourinho is back in Serie A, but it isn’t with Inter.

The Special One has been officially appointed today as Roma’s new head coach for the 2021-22 season, replacing Paulo Fonseca.

Mourinho enjoyed a legendary two-year spell as Inter’s manager in which he guided the Nerazzurri to an historic treble in 2010.

He is now set to become an opponent for Antonio Conte’s side as they bid to defend their Serie A title.

Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur last month after an unsuccessful 17-month spell in charge, which saw him leave the Premier League club struggling down in seventh place.

He has not coached in Serie A since leaving Inter in 2010 and his return will undoubtedly be welcomed as a huge coup for Italian football in general.

Conte and Mourinho enjoyed a spicy rivalry while the pair were in charge of Chelsea and Manchester United, and now they will be renewing their hostilities with Inter and Roma.

Fonseca will remain in charge until the end of the season though, meaning Mourinho will not be back at San Siro when Roma visit on May 12.
