Inter are plotting a move to sign Ajax’s Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana on a free transfer next summer to replace Samir Handanovic, according to a report in the Italian print media.

As has been reported by Tuttosport, the goalkeeper is also of major interest to French side Olympique Lyonnais who would rather sign him permanently this summer rather than wait another year.

This gives Inter a decision to make because they may be forced to act quickly and sign the player for a transfer fee if he looks close to joining Lyon.

Andre Onana was a key part of Ajax’s impressive Champions League run in 2018/19 when they were one kick away from reaching the final against Liverpool. Players such as Matthijs De Ligt, Donny Van der Beek and Frenkie de Jong were part of that squad that has since been largely broken up.

He is still serving a ban from football for a doping violation.
